The styling for this shoot is Gongsun Li's Smoke of Partings from Honor of Kings, and the cosplay photoshoot has finally been sorted out. I mainly wanted to present that cool, aloof, yet decisive and lethal temperament, matching the sharp aura of 'unfaithful ones shall be executed' from the original lore. The overall styling and scene design both gravitated toward this direction.
Let's first talk about the design details of the costume. The primary color tone uses pure white as a base, paired with localized cyan-blue and vermilion to enhance the visual layers. The high-neck, cut-out shoulder tailoring of the upper body heavily tests the shoulder and neck lines. The striking golden annular accessory right in the middle of the chest, inlaid with a round, smooth blue-green gemstone, serves as the visual centerpiece of the entire chest area. A staggered grey-blue wide belt is matched around the waist, hanging a highly substantial tassel rope; the braided rope is interspersed with white jade rings and some copper small accessories, providing an excellent swaying motion when walking. The sleeve design on both sides of the arms is very unique—the main sleeves are greyish-black wide-mouth puffy sleeves, while to increase the sense of agility, a semi-transparent sheer tulle extends from the shoulders to the back. It is dyed with a three-color gradient of cyan, white, and red, incredibly lightweight, making it practically the dynamic soul of every hand-raising action. The black-and-red matching flat shoes on the feet are also full of details, with red leather and metal rings bound at the ankles, playing a great grounding role amid the large area of white.
In terms of props, there are mainly two items this time. One is an oil-paper umbrella featuring large painted cloud and wave patterns; the ribs are made of lacquered solid wood, and once opened, the surface colors lean soft and restrained. The other is that long-handled magical weapon; the leaf-like shape at the top utilizes a cyan-and-white color clash, with a highly eye-catching orange gemstone embedded in the middle. Paired with the dangling tassels and jade rings below, it has an excellent weight balance in hand, beautifully guiding the gaze when posing.
For the shooting scenes, we selected two completely different layouts. The first set is a classic indoor ancient building featuring wooden lattice windows, warm yellow lanterns, calligraphy and painting scrolls, as well as a Go board on a low daybed and a few sprigs of red plum blossoms. The lighting is incredibly warm, and making close-ups or half-body compositions in this environment easily molds a mysterious, cool deity-like feel. The other set is an outdoor scene set up specifically to coordinate with elements like moonlight and osmanthus; a bright full moon hangs in the deep black night sky, and the tile-stacked roof ridge is dotted with a few small white rabbit-shaped ornaments, alongside large clusters of blooming yellow osmanthus. The cool-toned moonlight hits the costume, rendering the original white fabric more translucent.
On the day of the outdoor location shoot, the photographer specifically used a low-angle upward shot, combining a slow shutter speed to capture the trajectory of the sheer fabric as it fluttered. The resulting effects—whether looking back sideways while holding the umbrella or poised to strike while gripping the magical weapon—all align perfectly with the visual tension of Smoke of Partings standing proudly at a height. For the makeup, the eyeliner was heavily elongated with a slight upward flick at the outer corner, and a cool-toned blend was used for the eyeshadow. Paired with a touch of under-eye blush and a highly clean white base makeup, it just happened to counterbalance the large area of cool color on the costume, making the whole person look more three-dimensional in the lens and giving the gaze more piercing power. Although sporting two hair buns topped with a hair crown and hairpins made the overall weight very heavy, under the influence of the scene's atmosphere, it was easy to bring that dashing and resolute state into the shoot.
That's all for the sharing regarding the costume, makeup, props, and scene coordination of this 'Smoke of Partings' skin. The overall texture is perfect for visual expressions that carry a touch of narrative, and if you are interested, you can also take a look at these styling coordination ideas I used in the photos. I hope this Smoke of Partings cosplay or general ancient-style cosplay setup gives a nice insight.
