For this Rei Ayanami cosplay shoot at the Xiamen Anime Convention (International Animation Carnival), I went with a rock band styling, and these images are the direct Convention photo captures taken on site that day. The costume features intricate details: a grey deep-V sleeveless top accented with criss-cross lacing down the front, a wide open-back cutout design, and a necktie paired with a black choker, bringing together a cool, alluring, and slightly wild Rock style cosplay presence. The lower half features denim shorts decorated with a red belt and metallic chains, along with asymmetrical leg straps and garters. The most eye-catching touch is the flared boot-cut denim boots, whose platform heels gave me great vertical elevation on the convention floor. Because this rock theme skipped stockings, it relied on garters and flared cuffs to add layered structure and rugged definition to the legs, while the swaying chains as I walked heightened the visual impact.

The venue was packed that day, and the overhead lighting was quite cluttered. However, photographer Qi Wu utilized a wide aperture with a telephoto lens to melt the ambient ceiling fixtures into round bokeh orbs, preserving a cool-toned blue-grey palette across the entire frame. Before shooting, I communicated extensively with the photographer, aiming primarily to capture that signature aloof, detached essence true to Neon Genesis Evangelion. Specifically, between the phone-selfie shots and hands-on-hips poses, the former offered interactive spontaneity while the latter fully displayed the styling's proportions. The grey teddy bear prop was surprisingly heavy; balancing the pose with chains looped over my arm was an endurance test, especially holding my core taut for full-body shots after standing in platform shoes all day, leaving my ankles rather sore. Still, seeing the finalized shots made this blend of an iconic anime persona with casual denim and rock flair feel wonderfully refreshing. Even with the noisy crowd and the initial search for optimal angles, the relaxed ambiance let me sink deeply into character. Capturing cool-toned metallic textures from such an unconventional outfit on a bustling convention floor is truly rewarding, and I hope for equally fantastic lighting and shooting conditions next time.
