The event photos from the Moka ACG Exhibition are finally sorted out! This photoshoot features Rei Ayanami from Neon Genesis Evangelion in a purple dress outfit. This costume is very uniquely designed; unlike her typical white-and-blue plugsuit, this purple-gray shimmering tulle dress paired with a black corseted belt focuses visual attention and complements the lighting at the convention venue.
The pose of glancing back while turning sideways was quite demanding on core strength, and the high-low hemline extended the leg lines. To maintain the character's signature sense of detachment, I looked straight into the camera lens, which, combined with the red contacts, kept the expression from looking overly sweet. The top features a halter backless design, while the black choker around the neck and the chunky black high heels adorned with bows on the feet serve as great accents, keeping the overall color palette harmonious.
The lighting at the venue was somewhat complex. The photographer used a fill light positioned slightly to the left from the front, bringing out fine, sparkling glimmers on the purple fabric. This material flows nicely when walking, and the snap captured the exact moment the skirt draped naturally. In terms of makeup and styling, the light blue wig had great texture, which, along with the red lenses and cool-toned eye makeup, created a serene presence amidst the noisy venue, yet formed an intriguing contrast with the elegance of the outfit itself.
Although she is the pilot of Evangelion Unit-00, this formal dress style reveals another layer of the character's beauty. Shooting convention photos is indeed tiring—waiting for shooting spots amid crowds takes patience—but seeing the final results, both the texture of the dress under the lights and the overall cool-toned atmosphere fully match the vision I wanted to express.
