This lifeguard look, formed by a black high-neck form-fitting Swimsuit paired with red-and-white harnesses and cross emblems, was my original inspiration for shooting this Marciana cosplay Swimsuit set. Based on the Swimsuit design from Goddess of Victory: Nikke, the overall look presents a very crisp and tactical aesthetic.
Let's start with the costume itself. This black base Bodysuit features a slightly lustrous material similar to a wetsuit or rashguard, fitting body contours snugly. The high-neck cut is relatively rare in cosplay, but it creates a striking visual contrast with the red V-shaped lifeguard harness. The white cross on the straps and the chest nameplate add a professional real-world lifeguard flair while preserving the 2D aesthetic. To capture the character's traits, I wore a red open-top sun visor headband and tied my reddish-brown hair into a casual high updo—with slightly tousled strands to match the relaxed, effortless vibe of waterside activities. The black neck lanyard with a small red whistle pendant, along with the clear waterproof pouch on my arm holding a little yellow rubber duck, are all faithful details from the original character design.
For props, I chose a brightly colored yellow-and-blue toy Water gun. This Water gun is quite sizable, not only feeling substantial in hand but also adding vibrant color accents to the photos. Paired with the yellow sandals in the scene and the short red surfboard in Photo 2, the summer beach atmosphere was brought to life instantly. The set decoration was equally thoughtful: white wooden fences, blue-and-white striped parasols, lounge chairs, corner potted plants, and lifebuoy hooks all worked together to build a miniature outdoor poolside paradise in the studio.
The main challenge during the shoot was managing the costume in the studio environment. Despite the summer theme, snug-fitting Bodysuit fabrics offer little breathability, making prolonged work under studio lighting prone to heat and sweat. However, this exact material clearly sculpts body contours—especially in kneeling poses, where movement extension and body lines appear exceptionally natural. For makeup, I deepened the eyeshadow tones and applied a rosy blush, striving for a healthy and energetic on-camera presence. Straight bangs and sideburn strands added extra liveliness to the character.
During the shoot, posing ready to fire with the Water gun or kneeling on one knee beside the surfboard with a gentle head tilt were all part of channeling the character's personality. This Swimsuit design doesn't aim for excessive exposure, but the tailored high-cut leg openings and fitted bust flattering silhouette without being overly flashy. In terms of practical experience, delivering a high-quality character photoshoot heavily depends on costume comfort and prop synergy. The lighting did a fantastic job highlighting skin tones and catching localized specular glints on the props.
All in all, slipping into a 2D character's design is one of the greatest joys of cosplay. Successfully capturing this Marciana cosplay Swimsuit look gave me a deeper, tangible appreciation for the character.
