[Irene Cosplay] Tranquility and Refinement at the Convention: Arknights

During my trip to Changsha ACC Anime Convention, I finally took out this look I had prepared for a long time to shoot a formal set, with WiFi-laoshi once again handling the camera as my frequent collaborator. Against the backdrop of the crowded convention venue, we specifically sought out a relatively quiet corner with lighting rigs to capture Irene's calm yet sharp, capable demeanor as much as possible.

Let's talk about the Kigurumi mask. Presenting the character using a Kig mask this time was actually a fascinating experiment. Unlike conventional wigs and makeup, a Kig mask carries an inherent 2D planar quality, but it also means facial expressions are completely restricted. The field of vision inside the mask is quite narrow, and staying inside a loud, bustling convention hall for long periods feels rather hot and stuffy. How to convey character emotions through body language and focused gaze in the absence of facial expressions was something I constantly pondered.

The entire costume centered on a black-and-white maid outfit cosplay style, crowned with black wing headpieces and a lace-trimmed headband. The white shirt collar featured a slender black neckband, anchored visually by a small reddish-brown pendant in the center. I must make special mention of the red cross mark near the eye area—though small, it served as a finishing touch. The coat used a stiff black fabric complemented by white trims around the cuffs, creating a rich three-dimensional sense of layering.

For the lower half, I specifically chose white thigh-high stockings paired with black shiny leather shoes, a classic combination that gracefully highlighted leg lines. In the final photo sitting on a step stool, I tried a more relaxed posture—hands lightly clasped in front, legs crossed—which, combined with soft lighting descending from the venue, created a slightly nonchalant yet commanding aura that I personally adore.

I also brought along a mini version of myself—a matching plush doll wearing the exact same outfit. Holding it allowed my hand gestures to look natural while adding a touch of playfulness to the framing. Whether holding it quietly or placing it beside me, it felt like bringing a miniature self to the convention floor.

The background of the shooting setup included high-power studio fill lights and softboxes. These professional tools significantly enhanced the image quality, helping achieve a clean, translucent skin tone even under the convention hall's noisy overhead lights. Despite uncontrollable factors like passing crowds and shifting venue light, the photographer's patient guidance and location scheduling produced results beyond expectations. My experience at Changsha ACC Anime Convention was fantastic; walking through crowds in a mask and expressing the character entirely through body language and costume made for a deeply immersive convention experience.
