[Aglaea Cosplay] Golden Divinity and Sharpness in Honkai: Star Rail

It didn't take too long to prepare for this photoshoot, but I carefully studied the original settings of Aglaea from Honkai: Star Rail before getting everything ready. Her initial impression is holy and cool, yet beneath it lies an uncompromising resilience. To capture this intertwining of divinity and mortal presence, I simplified the hair and makeup, focusing mainly on recreating her demeanor and aura.

For the hair color, I chose a matte pale gold, avoiding overly reflective finishes. The bang layers were trimmed twice to ensure they looked natural when paired with green contact lenses. For the makeup, I softened the eyebrow tone to make the gaze look more focused and piercing. Selecting fabrics for the outfit took the most effort: the main off-white skirt lining uses a satin with subtle sheen, while the champagne gold ribbons over top are high-density organza spliced with chiffon. This combination ensures a beautiful drape while giving the skirt a featherlight feel when floating. The golden choker and 3D waist ornaments were sewn independently onto the fabric, delivering an exquisite, non-tacky metallic texture.

As for props, both the lance and longsword have considerable weight. Especially the lance—since it needs to be held upright with a high center of gravity, lifting it with one hand was a true test of core and arm strength. While taking the first photo, I was secretly exerting all my strength to keep the lance vertical; thankfully, my prior strength training paid off, so the posture didn't look overly stiff. The longsword was mostly used for slashing motions. For that sense of dynamic tension in the third picture, I swung it more than a dozen times to form an elegant angle between the chiffon skirt, drapes, and the blade.

The studio photography set was a huge plus this time. The warm lighting, layered with champagne and deep blue fabrics, plus the foreground mannequin, vintage candelabra, and birdcage, stretched out the spatial depth. The photographer's capture of light and shadow was delicate—rather than chasing pure brightness, they preserved the contrast of light and dark, giving the shadow lines on my face a sharper definition. This actually fit the character's cool and slightly distant nature much better.

Honestly, when portraying characters with long, complex outfits, the biggest challenge lies in the completeness of the motion presentation. You have to keep the skirt hem neat while ensuring every frame of body language aligns with the character's persona. For the glance back in the second photo, I adjusted the tilt of my chin several times to convey an effortless, scrutinizing look. In post-processing, we preserved the natural textures as much as possible, only adjusting the color temperature slightly to make the golden texture pop.

Every cosplay feels like a conversation across space with the character. Pouring a piece of one's emotion into it, bringing a fictional character into real life through costume, makeup, props, and the lens—it's a truly magical experience. I hope everyone can feel the tranquility and strength conveyed in this set. Not until the final click of the shutter did this performance of a golden dream truly come to a close.
