[Nangong Yu cosplay] Zenless Zone Zero: The Details on This Stage Idol Outfit Are So Captivating

From placing the custom order to finally wearing this Zenless Zone Zero Nangong Yu cosplay outfit, it took roughly a full month. Putting it on was far more intricate than expected, especially balancing the pieced fabrics and detailed trims. The main top is made of a form-fitting white fabric featuring a distinct cutout around the waist and midriff; to keep the abdominal lines clean on camera, I barely ate beforehand and continuously controlled my posture and breathing. The large turquoise-blue bow and red-and-black checkered tie at the chest act as the visual centerpiece—the tie is pre-tied and fixed, which saved plenty of hassle. The black cat choker around the neck is the ultimate finishing touch, immediately channeling the character's signature aura.

The sleeves deserve special mention: black flared leather arm warmers, trimmed with red ruffles along the outer edges, lined with plush black faux fur on the inside, and decorated with turquoise bows. Under bright studio lights, this fabric trapped immense heat, making my arms sweat quickly. The plush lining easily compressed, requiring fluffing between takes to preserve that voluminous, fluffy look. Down below, the white mini-skirt is detailed with cutout black bow silhouettes and metallic insignias; while gorgeously detailed, the pink and black lace ruffles around the hem snag easily, requiring utmost caution when moving or changing. Black Over-the-knee socks were paired with white platform open-toe sandals decorated with black sawtooth edging and small turquoise bows. While the platform shoes offered great height, their elevated center of gravity strained my calves over time, so I rested on a chair whenever possible between shots.

The wig features a black-to-pink gradient; trimming the bangs and side strands took considerable effort. To align with the character's temperament, I accentuated the makeup with red eyeshadow and sharp eyeliner, combined with red contact lenses to give the eyes a fiercer, more assertive edge. The white pointed horn ornaments on the back had to be fastened securely to the belt, requiring careful positioning during movement to avoid bumping into light stands or backdrop panels.

Collaborating with the photographer Shark Chili went wonderfully smooth. Set against a pure white background, this studio shoot focused sharply on garment textures and bodily poise. To convey both playful charm and fierce edge, we experimented with varied poses: hands raised above the head with fingers splayed, fists tucked lightly at the chest, or turning sideways to flash a peace sign. In full-body frames, to highlight the line of the black Over-the-knee socks, I shifted my weight onto one leg while softly bending the other to elongate proportions with an upright posture. Because of the cutouts, wider movements pulled against the costume's structure, turning each frozen moment into subtle muscular endurance.

A pure white backdrop is notoriously demanding on lighting—it must stay uniform without overexposing, ensuring the clash of black, pink, and turquoise remains vibrant while preserving the textural contrast between plush fur and structured leather. Cosplay goes beyond merely slipping into an outfit; it is about projecting the soul of the character through static frames. From adjusting fine seams to refining poses with patience, every bit of effort was worth it once the final images came together.
