[Nangong Yu cosplay] Zenless Zone Zero Angels of Delusion: Faithful Recreation at Firefly Anime Convention

This is the Angels of Delusion look for Nangong Yu from Zenless Zone Zero, and the prep work took quite a bit of time. The greatest challenge was the patent leather material: putting it on and taking it off was a huge hassle, and it reflected harsh glare under indoor venue lighting that could easily look overly shiny and greasy if the angles were off. Because of that, I had to deliberately tilt and turn my body during the shoot to avoid direct light. The detached purple flared sleeves paired with black patent arm bracers framed the arm contours nicely, though they did restrict movement. The wig featured a black base styled into twintails with pink dip-dye accents, crowned with a purple halo prop. To match the character setting, I specifically selected crimson lenses, while deepening the pink tones of the blush and eyeshadow. That day was at the Firefly Anime convention; the venue was packed and backgrounds were cluttered, so we dodged the crowds to find a spot by the expo center's massive glass windows. Outside high-rises and tree shadows on the pavement formed an organic soft blur, and the natural daylight filtering through yielded results far better than anticipated. The first full-body shot is my absolute favorite: the black pleated skirt paired with thigh-high Black stockings and chunky biker platform boots elongated visual proportions wonderfully, while the pose of bending slightly to lift the skirt hem was an angle I worked out in front of the mirror beforehand. The next two are half-body close-ups; resting my chin in my hand in the second and gesturing to my cheek in the third both required dialed-in eye contact, with the red lenses showing fantastic texture under front-lit illumination. There were quite a few small hiccups during the shoot—the oversized purple sleeves constantly dragged on the floor getting soiled, the skirt flared up easily in drafts, and the halo prop was so light that it struggled to stay firmly anchored. The entire afternoon went into constant adjustments: cinching the belt one minute, tightening hair accessories the next. In front of the camera, however, I did my best to convey the character's blend of little-devil mischief and cool aloofness. From costume preparation to convention shooting, embodying a beloved character always means striving to honor the original design. The cut of the black bodysuit and skirt put body contours under strict scrutiny, so I maintained careful diet control in the days leading up to the shoot. Beforehand, I also aligned with the photographer on lighting needs, as the textures of patent leather and Black stockings behave very differently in studios versus live convention environments. From settling on the concept to fine-tuning eye makeup and picking the final selects, the journey is pure joy for anyone passionate about cosplay. The final curated shots capture the garment's texture faithfully, with the pleats and metallic buckles showing crisply.
