[Nahida Cosplay] Seeing the Beauty of the World with My Own Eyes

Preparing the hair and makeup for this Nahida Cosplay took over a month, and today we finally completed the shoot in a real studio set filled with a fairytale atmosphere. Looking at the final results in the camera lens, I feel that all the early effort and meticulous planning have truly paid off.

The wig features a gradient from silver-white to light grass green, a color combination that severely tests wig-styling technique. The green curve at the hair tips required precise trimming to control layering and thickness; otherwise, it could easily look bulky. The leaf-shaped metal accessories on top and green accents near the roots are the soul of this look. To ensure a secure fit, I specially adjusted the clip's angle so it wouldn't slide during dramatic movements while shooting. The hair remains voluminous without being untidy, its cyan reflections under the light perfectly fitting the character's botanical motif.

As for the outfit, the white-and-green attire was crafted from patterned satin fabric, featuring meticulous gold thread embroidery along the cuffs and neckline. This embroidery technique grants the garment a soft luster under warm lighting without being overly dazzling or distracting focus from the character. In terms of tailoring, the garment's curved silhouette strikes a refined balance, maintaining an airy, flowing aesthetic while ensuring comfort during movement. The green totem symbols on the skirt hem were constructed by piecing together different fabrics, yielding rich dynamic layering as I walked or turned slightly.

For makeup, to complement the character's nimble and innocent nature, I deliberately enlarged the eye makeup proportions, outlining large, rounded eye shapes with dark brown and black eyeliners. Accentuating the inner corners and lower eyelids with glitters reflecting light green gave her gaze an expressive sparkle. For lips, I chose a matte grapefruit shade, which avoids stealing focus from the eyes while infusing a vibrant, youthful grace into the character. This refined doll-like makeup heavily tests foundation longevity; after nearly an afternoon of shooting, except for slight oiliness around the nose bridge, most of the base makeup retained a very clean, even texture, harmonizing perfectly with sweet facial expressions.

The venue for this shoot was a playful, fairytale-inspired studio set. The background featured a bright yellow wall adorned with colorful triangular bunting printed with Mickey and Hello Kitty patterns, with a green four-leaf clover decorative plaque centered in the middle bearing the word 'Lucky'. This environment, full of luck and exploratory spirit, resonated deeply with my vision of Lesser Lord Kusanali—a deity brimming with curiosity about the world. An adjacent pink crystal chandelier cast a warm yellow glow, striking the white-and-green costume to create a natural soft-focus halo. A small sliced cake on the table and the light green plastic fork in hand served as wonderful lifestyle props. The action of eating cake broke away from rigid pose-striking, rendering the photos remarkably natural and vivid.

Before taking these photos, I constantly contemplated what colors the world takes on through Nahida's eyes. As a deity possessing vast lifespan and wisdom, she nevertheless observes everything around her with childlike curiosity and pure wonder. Hence, I refrained from solemn or detached expressions, maintaining instead a peaceful sense of relaxation. Sitting at the small round table lifting the fork, I imagined myself enjoying a lazy afternoon tea inside a whimsical garden. The subtle head tilts and gentle gazes captured in frame were designed to convey her dual nature—both wise and delightfully childlike.

In post-processing, I refrained from applying heavy filters, performing only minor color grading. The primary goal was adjusting white balance so the bright yellow background wall wouldn't overpower the shot, while tastefully boosting the color saturation of green hair strands and skirt accents to render overall color contrast more vibrant and three-dimensional. This final result preserved the studio set's organic texture while faithfully highlighting her signature green-dominated color palette.

We often get used to admiring 2D characters through digital screens, yet only when fully suited in costume and stepping into real ambient light can one truly feel that unique vitality beyond character settings. Light, color, or even a tiny plastic fork in hand—stitching these seemingly trivial elements together often yields profound joy and fulfillment. This shooting experience gave me a renewed appreciation for my original motivation in Cosplay photography: indeed, one must see with their own eyes to truly experience the beauty of the world.
