This time, I bring you a Reimu Hakurei Cosplay photoshoot. Although this character is extremely popular in Touhou Project and has been cosplayed by countless people, every time I go on an outdoor shoot, I still hope to find my own interpretation. The location was specially chosen at a place with a red torii gate and blue stone steps, where the ambient color tone matches the character's red-and-white color scheme beautifully. For this Shrine maiden outfit, the fabric choice emphasizes a nice drape, and the red lower skirt uses a fabric with subtle jacquard patterns, presenting varying lusters under natural light. The large bow and tassels on the hair accessory were reinforced because it was quite windy during the shoot, and they would easily get messy if they were too flimsy. This time, I specially prepared multiple talismans and a gohei (purification rod) as props. The details on the talismans were also custom-made, striving to stand up to scrutiny even under close-up shots.

The shoot caught the golden hour of the afternoon. The light and shadow shifting as the sun filtered through the plant leaves changed rapidly, heavily testing the photographer's snapshot rhythm during this Cosplay photography session. Special thanks go to @Wuyu Ruoye, who not only gave a lot of practical advice on pose guidance but also captured the key moment of swinging the gohei to create dynamic afterimages. Although I swung it nearly twenty times and my arms felt a bit sore, seeing the dynamic lines in the final prints was very satisfying. To perfectly recreate Reimu Hakurei, besides having the proper attire, the more important part is capturing her traits of usually loving to drink tea and read newspapers, yet immediately turning serious when an incident occurs. Standing under the torii gate in this outfit, that subtle shift in mindset truly exists. There's no need to intentionally maintain a specific expression; relaxing instead brings the vibe closer to the original work. After organizing the raw photos, I found that the performance of the prop details under the light exceeded expectations. The red and white colors easily make the subject stand out against the green background, making the composition quite clean and durable. I hope this set of outdoor photos with a personal touch can bring a different visual experience to friends who love Reimu and appreciate this piece of Anime cosplay.
