A lot of thought was truly poured into the details of today's Hsin styling. To capture that unique fantasy style mystery inherent in Wuthering Waves, I communicated repeatedly with the team on every step, from makeup to wardrobe. Long silvery-white hair paired with large-volume plush animal ears visually enhanced the head proportions; to securely mount these ears, plenty of bobby pins and hairspray went into securing the hairstyle base. The red-pupil contact lenses combined with red smudging at the outer eye corners made the gaze look much sharper. The golden forehead chain and star-shaped hair ornaments shimmered brightly under the lights, though their angles required constant adjustment to avoid obstructing my line of sight.
Regarding the costume, the black core bustier paired with a semi-sheer red gauze cloak created an intense visual impact with its red-and-black color blocking. The golden gem accessories at the chest and neck, along with the forehead chain, were key to elevating the gorgeousness. The plush white fur collar around the shoulders and neck photographed exceptionally well, though it proved quite stifling under the high heat of studio lighting. What felt most time-consuming was the totem body painting across the collarbone and chest; sketching the expansive red-and-gold palette line by line required breathing with extreme caution to prevent smearing. The nails were specifically sculpted into long, sharp shapes, complementing the delicate gold bracelets on the wrists to add an ethereal demon-like flair during poses.
When dressing the set, the photographer incorporated dark wooden furniture and white flowering branches, casting blue light from behind to trace a moon-like silhouette that, together with top lighting, brought out stunning texture from the red-and-black garments. Throughout the shoot, I continuously pondered how to make hand gestures softer—whether gently touching hair strands or holding a protective posture before the chest, each required alignment with the focal point of my gaze. To showcase the airy, flowing drape of the outfit, swinging the wide sleeves was captured repeatedly until finding the most natural sense of movement.
Prop coordination was another key highlight this time. The turquoise gem necklace on the chest echoed the gold accessories at the waist; although it was 2D photography, I constructed a three-dimensional character mindset in my head. The tailoring of this outfit placed high demands on posture maintenance—slouching or relaxing even slightly would dampen the aura, so I kept my spine straight throughout. As for the makeup, besides the red pupils, the base foundation was kept quite pale to emphasize an otherworldly skin texture. Because the fabric incorporated numerous reflective elements and plush textures, every turn before the camera called for factoring in light refraction. To display the garment's layering, I tested various profile and three-quarter angles, ensuring the sleeve drape and fur collar fluffiness appeared harmoniously within the frame.
This shoot was deeply fulfilling, and through these intricate details, one could truly appreciate the rich depth of the character design itself. Although preparation and shooting were exhausting, seeing the scenes on set made every bit of it worthwhile. I waited quite a while to receive these photos, and the overall texture matched my vision of Hsin wonderfully.
