Bringing this Serizawa Chiemi cosplay to life took nearly half a month from initial preparation to the final shoot. Deciding on this character stemmed from the profound impression left by Yasumizu Village in Raging Loop—shrouded in heavy mists yet steeped in a bloody, frenzied feast. As a cosplayer who consistently loves exploring dark aesthetics and Battle-damaged makeup cosplay, I was thrilled to finally translate the scenes living in my head into tangible reality.
Starting with the props that received the most dedicated attention: the straw-wrapped wooden post and silver wolf mask cradled in the photos took the longest to craft. Dried branches were individually selected, arranged, and adhered; to achieve that raw, fragmented texture, deep red shadow washes were applied once the primer dried. The silver wolf mask surface was burnished for a metallic sheen, which reflected an eerie brilliance beneath the studio's red and blue neon tubes. The axe held in hand was also hand-crafted from scratch—the haft wrapped in fabric strips, with rust and wear weathered into the axe blade, giving it genuine, solid heft in hand. The headpiece featuring bloodstained cloth strips and twigs shown in Photo 4 was conceptualized alongside the mask.
The makeup and styling demanded equal dedication. The wig was a layered black shag cut; to evoke a disheveled, feral presence, generous amounts of styling wax and freeze spray were applied, using bobby pins to lock in flared, spiked strands, topped with plush Kemonomimi cosplay ears. The foundation was kept pale porcelain, anchoring the visual core around the lacerations and blood splatters across the left cheek. To keep the blood looking authentic, varying shades of red were built up in layers with softly feathered edges, paired with crimson contact lenses. Looking into the mirror upon finishing, that exhausted yet perilous aura materialized instantly. For the wardrobe, the vivid orange-yellow sleeveless vest paired with blue sleeves and a yellow base layer generated striking chromatic contrast against the shadowed environment.
The ambient lighting on shoot day was phenomenal: elongated ceiling strip lights combined with magenta and cool-blue ambient fills, supplying immense suspense and psychological weight. Facing the camera, I pitched my voice and gaze low, arching my back slightly to maintain an aggressive, coiled stance ready to strike. The photographer's framing was impeccably precise, cleanly preserving the fine details of the battle-damaged makeup and the tactile texture of the props across both tight close-ups and half-body shots.
The entire journey—from crafting props by hand and finessing the makeup to releasing raw emotion before the lens—was an exhilarating creative ride. Ruin aesthetics, battle damage, and Dark style cosplay remain directions I cherish deeply, and the synergy between wardrobe, props, and ambient lighting completely realized our vision.
