The theme of this shoot is the indoor pool at night, with the overall tone set on the collision of warm yellow light and freezing pool water. Looking back at this set shot last summer, I can still recall the stuffy yet refreshing airiness of that time. Choosing to shoot at night has the advantage of avoiding the blinding natural light of the day; the color temperature of artificial light sources is easily controlled, creating an intimate atmosphere with a cinematic feel.

The preparation work for the styling focused on restoring the character's expressions and traits, especially those two signature hair strands at the top of the wig and the fine, straight bangs across the forehead. To find the most natural form, I spent a long time adjusting them during the look-finalizing process. For the outfit, I chose a dark blue one-piece swimsuit. This cut outlines the body silhouette beautifully without snatching the visual center of the overall frame due to an overly complex design. The slim-fit pattern also offers a modifying effect on the waist and abdomen lines.

The shooting scene was decorated with a pink donut-shaped inflatable swim ring and one or two actually edible donuts as props. Although the massive swim ring fits the refreshing summer vibe perfectly, carrying and adjusting its position in the pool water was actually quite exhausting. To keep it facing forward with a nice angle all the time, I had to constantly adjust its direction. As for holding or biting the donut, it placed a higher demand on the stability of expression management. Since the prop itself carries a playful air, my gaze had to coordinate a casual and relaxed state, avoiding looking too forced.

In terms of lighting setup, a warm-toned side light was deployed. This light hitting the wooden deck floor formed a highly comfortable diffuse reflection while outlining the character's silhouette. The water in the pool displayed a highly distinct azure blue, forming a classic warm-and-cool contrast with the warm yellow light. To capture the ripples on the water surface, we didn't use an overly high shutter speed, which perfectly recorded the flowing textures of the ripples under the lights. The inclusion of the water reflections also added extra layers to the frame, highlighting the blue-toned lighting and shadows.

Regarding composition and posture selection, the focus was on showcasing the natural wearing state of the one-piece swimsuit. Standing poses emphasized the extension of body lines; trying to relax the shoulders and let the arms bend naturally to interact with the props was much more vivid than rigid body language. Sitting poses utilized the white tiles at the pool's edge, elongating the lower body proportions through the casual extension of the legs while keeping the arches of the feet taut, which visually optimized the overall body form. Avoiding angles that look directly into the camera lens and letting the line of sight drift slightly enhanced the snapshot feel.

Since the shooting time was selected in the dead of night, the pool surroundings were exceptionally quiet with almost zero outside interference, making the overall atmosphere highly immersive. However, the unique environment of an indoor pool meant heavy water vapor on-site, which was a test for both makeup longevity and wig fluffiness. Fortunately, waterproofing and styling were handled well during early look-finalization, allowing the shooting process to proceed smoothly without frequent interruptions for makeup touch-ups.

The direction for post-processing was to avoid excessive skin smoothing and liquifying, with the primary work focused on data-based color restoration. We needed to preserve that cozy warm tone texture of the original ambient light while balancing the color of the blue pool to make it look translucent. Retaining a faint graininess in the frame matched the pool's humid environment, avoiding an overly heavy digital feel to present a film-like visual emotion.

This shoot made me realize the necessity of utilizing props and light well to construct an atmosphere within a specific environment. The pink donut, dark blue swimsuit, and the goggles on top of my head, when paired with the night indoor pool scene, generate a frame with a sense of storytelling rather than a simple character display. The inclusion of props isn't for piling up but to provide grounds for actions—such as holding the swim ring, clutching the donut, or pushing the goggles to the top of the head. These natural little details are precisely the keys to making the photos come 'alive.' This entire set of photos lacks complex grand scenes; a simple pool edge is completely enough to accomplish many different emotional expressions.
