The theme for this studio shoot was to create a completely relaxed, everyday feel, so we ditched lavish set designs and complex lighting setups. During early discussions with the photographer, we decided on tatami mats, wooden shelves, and warm color tones to reconstruct an authentic cozy Japanese room. There were tons of props on set—ranging from classic red-and-white controllers to various plush toys—and it actually took quite some time to arrange them into that naturally scattered look.
As for makeup and styling, I chose a light blonde long straight wig paired with custom animal ears and a fluffy tail, plus a red choker and golden bell, keeping the overall palette light. To emphasize a stay-at-home vibe, the costume specifically featured an oversized white T-shirt without pants underneath, creating a lazy Catgirl outfit aesthetic. Going barefoot resonated with this authentic lifestyle setting, and since the floor was covered with clean matting, there was no worry about getting dirty during the shoot.
The hardest part during shooting was actually expression management—capturing a hint of playful girliness without looking forced. The photographer guided me throughout, like having me look at the camera while pretending to sip a drink, or lightly tapping the controller with my toes. These micro-movements actually test core stability and weight control, as my sitting posture needed to remain relaxed while keeping my ears and tail unobstructed. We adjusted the plushie arrangements several times to ensure they enhanced the mood without stealing the spotlight.
For post-processing, we opted for a warm filmic color grade, slightly reducing contrast and softening highlights so the white shirt and fair skin wouldn't blow out. Real skin textures were preserved without over-smoothing, focusing mainly on unifying background noise colors for a cleaner palette. Additionally, we deliberately retained some loose cables and small ground items in frame, as this subtle clutter enhanced the authentic atmosphere of Studio photoshoot daily life.
Cosplay photography doesn't always need massive sets or flashy special effects; simple props and casual outfits can convey a character's personality just as effectively. This experience reminded me that great photos touch viewers through mood and emotion, rather than mere physical accuracy. Every studio shoot feels like a brief portal, bringing a fragment of the 2D world into reality. Lastly, making a detailed prop checklist before shooting is incredibly crucial, otherwise on-set panic wastes precious time. This time, we cataloged all plushies and electronic devices beforehand and sectioned them by scene zone, keeping shoot efficiency high. Furthermore, securing the animal ears and tail properly is vital—ensuring they don't break illusion from any angle while allowing natural head turning and body movement. These are details beginners easily overlook.
All in all, I'm extremely satisfied with how this set turned out. That natural, relaxed, cozy weekend happiness vibe fully exceeded expectations. I hope everyone can feel this tranquil weekend mood!
