For this June real-scene studio photography session, this gothic style cosplay attempt for Wakaba Mutsumi featured a very high compatibility between the setting and the costume. Before the shoot, I communicated with the photographer about wanting a dark retro texture; the red velvet high-back chair and golden picture frames arranged on-site indeed provided a great atmospheric foundation. For the entire look, a black cinched-waist dress paired with a platinum blonde short wig, and ice-blue colored contacts make me look relatively detached in front of the lens. For the character background of Wakaba Mutsumi, this cool demeanor is highly fitting. Some details of this dark style outfit are also worth talking about, such as the black floral choker at the neckline and a touch of blue-green ribbon on the chest, which neutralizes the heaviness that a large area of black might bring. The fluffy white tulle lining on the sleeves stacked with the black outer layer, along with the lace on the edges, strengthens the three-dimensional feel of the entire garment. The lower body's black polka-dot fishnets and garter straps, plus the black high heels with green trimming on the upper, balance the visual focus better and are classic elements in Gothic style cosplay.

The lighting on set was primarily a combination of warm-toned crystal chandeliers and fill lights; casting onto the red velvet chair, it offered a heavy sense of a classical court. A red rose with leaves was prepared as a handheld prop, which beautifully increases the color layers against the dark backdrop. During the shoot, golden picture frames were utilized for foreground and background composition; standing behind an empty frame or sitting on the chair to blur the foreground can both give the frame more of a narrative feel. The overall color tone of this real-scene studio leans dark, perfectly suiting gothic themes, as the contrast of light and shadow in the darkness can make the character stand out more. The wig was also trimmed and given a volumizing treatment in advance so it wouldn't sit too flat against the scalp, and paired with the exaggerated black lace headpiece, it carries great dramatic tension.

In terms of expressiveness, because Wakaba Mutsumi inherently possesses a relatively introverted and quiet personality in the storyline, this shoot didn't feature overly exaggerated expressions. Most of the time, I looked calmly and directly at the lens, or looked diagonally forward, hoping to present that mysterious temperament with a sense of distance. The photographer snapped photos very quickly; at the moment where the crystal lights lit up and interwoven with shadows, several half-body and full-body photos with a great atmospheric feel were captured. Needless to say, the advantage of real-scene studio photography is the realism of light and shadow; compared to post-processing compositing, the catchlights in the eyes look much more natural. Throughout the entire shoot, the three primary tones of red, black, and gold blended highly comfortably. The red of the rose and the light color of the wig generated a bit of a warm-and-cold color collision. Overall, it was a highly unique character interpretation attempt within BanG Dream!.
