Today I'm presenting my Ruler of Death cosplay from Genshin Impact. I've spent considerable time recently polishing this styling—from drafting the costume patterns to the final fitting, an enormous amount of thought was invested. To capture the character's aura, the outfit was crafted using sheer black tulle layered with silvery-white lines and crimson arcane totems, channeling an overarching dark gothic aesthetic. The wig features long, wavy silvery-white locks adorned with crimson hair accessories, paired with vivid red contact lenses, all aiming to project that perilous, enigmatic presence.

The core of the garment consists of semi-sheer black tulle patchwork, a textile that reveals exquisite tactile depth under warm lighting. The silvery-white linework running across the chest and waistline serves as the visual highlight of the silhouette; I adjusted the tailoring numerous times to ensure it hugged my body curves seamlessly. The black gloves accented with crimson motifs, the geometric prints along the skirt train, and the sheer black Stockings across the legs are all rich in intricate nuances. For footwear, I opted for pointed-toe patent leather stilettos—physically taxing as they were, they were an absolute necessity for flattering body proportions.

Regarding makeup, I deliberately deepened the eye contouring. Since the crimson lenses are striking on their own, the eyeshadow was kept clean and restrained, concentrating effort on crisp eyeliner and dramatic lashes to sharpen the gaze into something commanding and razor-sharp. For lips, I selected a deep reddish-brown tone to echo the overall palette. Styling the wig required liberal amounts of hairspray; achieving that artfully disheveled yet disciplined layered volume took over an hour of dedicated sculpting alone.

The set was staged in a vintage library study lined with towering bookshelves. Props included an anatomical skull replica, a metallic armillary globe, an owl ornament, and flickering wax candles. For illumination, we primarily utilized warm amber side-lighting to sculpt facial contours and garment textures, letting soft, natural shadows drape over the bookshelves in the background. Posing seated on the desk edge with legs crossed while cradling the skull in one hand demanded channeling a haughty, languid gaze. Maintaining this posture was quite demanding on the core—after several hours, my lower back was thoroughly sore, but seeing the skirt hemline fall into fluid ripples alongside the delicate sheen of the Stockings under the light made every bit of effort worth it.

The physical bookshelf backdrop provided deep focal depth, giving the frame a rich, immersive composition. Midway through the shoot, in order to capture the natural flicker of candle flames, the crew repeatedly repositioned the candelabras and diffusion flags so the warm light grazed my profile just right. Throughout the process, I was constantly contemplating the character's inner psyche, immersing myself completely into a narrative space steeped in supreme authority and the aura of mortality.

I place tremendous value on sculpting character through costume tailoring and the interplay of light and shadow. In this photo set, every single fabric fold and accessory placement was meant to convey narrative storytelling. The surrounding candles and vintage tomes elevated the ambiance seamlessly, keeping the composition grounded and substantial. During shooting, I continuously recalibrated my eyeline and poise, employing body language to harmonize with the weighty train. Slipping into characters that carry combative or dark attributes always turns dressing and makeup touch-ups into a major physical trial—especially with elongated nail tips and tight gloves, handling props demanded extreme caution to avoid damaging the styling. Yet the second the camera shutter clicks, all fatigue instantly gives way to sheer immersion. I hope this set conveys the icy, formidable grace within her design and breathes three-dimensional life into the 2D lore. From early preparation to final shooting, every step reflected my devotion to the work, and I thoroughly cherished the journey of translating imagination into reality.
