This time, I shot the official Sanhua cosplay photos for Wuthering Waves on-site at Kuro Carnival, held at the Canton Fair Complex exhibition venue. The purple and pink rock backdrop set up at the venue perfectly matched the character's cool and sharp aura, creating fantastic textures under the lighting.
Let's start with the details of this styling. The overall tone is grounded in matte black leather accented with golden yellow touches. On my head, I wore a black beret adorned with a gold disc-shaped metal ornament on the side. Paired with a silver-white wig featuring straight bangs, it feels both capable and lightweight. The chunky beaded necklace around the neck is one of the main visual highlights of the upper body, featuring gold beads strung together with red accessories and hanging tassels—a classic, timeless combination of black and gold. The top is an off-shoulder halter design exposing the shoulders, waist, and abdomen, with a very clean cut. The lower body features a short garment layer with overlapping diamond-patterned decorative bands. An irregular layered outer skirt is printed with white calligraphy-like characters, complemented by metal straps and buckles on the waist sides, offering rich layering.
On my legs, I wore semi-sheer black tights with black high-top boots. This black tights outfit visually elongates body proportions while keeping the dark color tone consistent throughout the entire look. As for props, the wide-bodied greatsword is extremely eye-catching, featuring a grey edge with a striking yellow line down the middle. Holding it feels satisfyingly substantial; posing with a horizontal slash, lifting the sword over the shoulder, or holding it vertically all deliver great visual tension. The black spherical ornament with golden patterns hanging behind the waist adds extra detail to the back of the character.
During the shoot, I needed to constantly adjust my sword-holding poses to match different angles. Because the sword is quite long, maintaining harmony between my body movements and the blade required extra care when standing, kneeling on one knee, or interacting with the sword. The photographer's snapshot timing was spot-on, capturing many natural dynamic moments as the outfit turned or as I held the sword. For makeup, reddish-brown eyeshadow was paired with reddish-brown contact lenses, complemented by a translucent base and clear lip color, creating a clean, sharp makeup look that performed exceptionally well in front of the lens.
The atmosphere at the Kuro Carnival exhibition venue was fantastic. Although surrounded by many players, I could fully focus and get into character while posing on stage. The fabric of this costume is quite structured; despite multiple layers, movement wasn't restricted at all, allowing me to strike various poses with ease. The process of shooting these convention photos went very smoothly, and the venue lighting helped highlight the clothing texture and metallic details, making the final shots visually rich. Portraying the character Sanhua allowed me to fully appreciate her crisp, capable nature and the unique charm of dark-toned styling, making it a wonderful anime convention photography experience.
