After changing into this costume look themed around the Dreamy Water Elemental, capturing the fluid moments of rippling water became the core mission of this photo set. To accurately recreate the dreamy feel of Sangonomiya Kokomi in her setting, I did quite a bit of research on the fabric and accessory details of this outfit for this Cosplay costume sharing. The outer light tulle not only needs a layered, three-dimensional look, but also needs to refract a luster similar to pearls and the ocean under lighting, in order to restore the crystal-clear water effect seen in the game. The cuffs feature a wide ruffled structure to enhance the immediate visual sense of splashing water. Although this imposed certain restrictions on shooting movements, the water ripple-like flow in the final images was truly worth it.
The black lace choker and the teardrop-shaped sapphire at the neckline are the visual anchors of the entire look. To prevent it from looking too heavy, the originally dense choker was slightly tweaked to fit the neck curve better, paired with a unique blue-and-white gradient wig style. When handling this two-tone gradient hair color, the most crucial thing to watch out for is a natural transition; the fluffiness of the pink top combined with the lightness of the ice-blue tips creates a tone with even more breathing room than the original setting. The shooting venue was chosen with a matching cool-light atmosphere. In particular, the photography team cleverly utilized tiny bokeh light spots in the background to simulate the dreamy look of marine plankton and bubbles, which played an excellent role in enhancing the atmosphere of the final photos. In terms of makeup, compared to a daily realistic look, this time I intensified the contouring of the eye makeup to complement the character's anime qualities, while using a glowing foundation to create a clean, ocean-like ethereal base makeup, allowing the eye expressions to showcase the character's gentleness and serenity when captured from multiple angles.
The embellishment of tiny pearls on the white gloves is also highly crucial, as it increases the overall refinement of the costume when making elegant hand gestures. When shooting characters that lean toward non-realistic and divine traits, post-processing and early-stage lighting layout are equally important. Through color grading, the warm-to-cold contrast of the overall frame was controlled within the blue and pink palette, and ambient light was used to outline a soft glow around the character's edges in this Anime-style portrait photography session. Moving beyond just chasing a physical resemblance, I hope to convey that gentle yet firm personality trait of this Genshin Impact character within the atmosphere of the photos. Every turn and gaze stems from my understanding and immersion into this character. I hope the details and textures presented in this work can help everyone see what this character looks like when reified in reality, and also allow everyone to feel my creative thoughts and expressions when attempting to restore this character.
