[Raiden Shogun cosplay] Sharing a Purple-Toned Genshin Impact Look

This creation centered around the purple color theme of Genshin Impact's Raiden Shogun, using specific lighting setups and prop pairings to recreate the character's presence as faithfully as possible. Costume-wise, the armor and accessories have many layers, which indeed imposed certain restrictions on movement. In particular, the shoulder armor design created resistance when raising my arms, so I had to pay special attention to angles when posing. The legs feature form-fitting black material paired with tall boots; to better showcase the waistline and leg proportions in seated poses, I adjusted my leg positioning and center of gravity repeatedly. For makeup, in line with the character's color palette, I chose purplish-pink eyeshadow and deep red lip color, applying highlighter to the cheekbones and under the eyes to project a cool, glamorous yet authoritative presence on camera. The hair accessories consisted of purple flowers and tassels, echoing the wisteria flowers in the background.

Set Design: The set for this shoot was constructed in a Japanese style room. The shoji screens in the background cast a blue-violet glow, while the floor featured a dark, reflective material scattered with purple petals, reminiscent of water or mirror reflections. The scene was also adorned with abundant wisteria, with freestanding floor lamps on both sides providing warm secondary light sources, creating a rich color depth.

Prop Selection: I prepared various props for this Anime cosplay shoot, including a white fox mask, an oil-paper umbrella adorned with purple blossoms, a black tea bowl for sipping tea, a short blade, and a long-handled polearm. The fox mask heightened the mystery and expressive gaze. The oil-paper umbrella suited standing poses, elegantly obscuring parts of the face and upper body to evoke a half-veiled aesthetic. Sitting on the rug sipping tea complemented the overall serene atmosphere, with light hitting the white rug to form a sharp contrast between warm and cool tones. Holding the blade and polearm emphasized combat readiness and power. The long-handled polearm also provided great balance during kneeling poses, naturally enhancing visual leading lines.

Shooting State: During the shoot, I pushed myself to maintain intense emotional focus. Holding an aloof, serious expression for long stretches is physically draining, but to match the character's temperament, I made sure to refine my eye focus with every shutter click. Looking at these final photos, from the composition with the mask to the umbrella's ambiance and the sword-drawing action, all achieved the visual impact I envisioned.

To highlight the leg contours and layered costume, the photographer kept the camera angle slightly below eye level. When composing seated shots, extending the legs outward toward the frame while keeping shoulders relaxed visually elongated the silhouette. Since the sword blade reflected light, I adjusted its tilt angle multiple times to prevent lens reflections from disrupting the image. The katana in hand had an exquisite metallic texture that required careful handling. Under white lighting, the purple oil-paper umbrella cast a soft violet aura, intertwining with the wisteria and floor lamps in the background. I carefully gauged the floor reflections and petal placement, as they served as key accents in the composition. When shooting the third set of tea-drinking and sword-drawing poses, the photographer and I discussed using backlighting to outline the silhouette, wrapping the dark hair and garment edges in a purple rim light for a subtly glowing effect. Finally, holding the fox mask close to the face with a slight head tilt allowed half of the face to rest entirely in shadow—this chiaroscuro play of light and shadow deepened the character's mystique. Every lighting adjustment and prop shift was aimed at capturing the perfect state in that thousandth of a second behind the shutter. This creative process based on the Genshin Impact character gave me a much deeper appreciation for the harmony between costume materials and light and shadow.
