Attending Day 3 of the Firefly ACG Expo this time was pure, hectic fun. The character I portrayed was Assassin's Wife D from Goddess of Victory: Nikke; although she is somewhat niche, she is a personal favorite of mine. The design of this outfit is packed with highlights: the white shirt features extensive cutout tailoring paired with a blue-and-white striped tie, instantly elevating the layered texture of the upper body. The lower half combines a deep blue denim mini skirt with a leather belt, metallic buckles, and black thigh rings, crafting an aura that blends the cold edge of a Secret detective with an elusive sensuality.
To add an extra gimmick to this look, I deliberately prepared a glossy jacket color-blocked in fluorescent green and black. Draping it over my shoulders, I instantly turned into a traffic cop handing out citations! Friends jokingly said this gear was made for maintaining public order on the convention floor. In hindsight, though, that jacket was essentially a massive prop: lightweight as it was, wearing it inside the crowded hall induced sweat within minutes, demanding immense stamina. But to preserve the overall aesthetic on camera, I kept it draped across my shoulders for most of the shoot.
Most of our shooting took place indoors. While indoor lighting was consistent, the crowds were dense, requiring us to seize pockets of open space whenever they appeared. That is precisely why I was seeking collaboration photographers. Experienced photographers know how to capture subtle lighting nuances indoors, showcasing garment textures and the contours of Thick thighs to perfection. The outdoor area was left entirely to chance due to the weather—it was far too hot to subject ourselves to an outdoor sauna. Luckily, I connected with several fantastic collaboration photographers today. Our communication flowed effortlessly, shutters clicked continuously, and we swiftly locked in the perspectives I envisioned. The photo turnaround was fast as well, and I am deeply grateful for their hard work.
While exploring the convention floor, I ran into fellow fans who recognized the character. Cosplaying a niche character always comes with the worry that no one will know who you are, so when people called out her name or asked for photo ops, the rush of joy was irreplaceable. I also brought along custom freebies; handing them out and seeing everyone's genuine smiles gave me a real sense of accomplishment. Walking through the venue in this outfit naturally restricted my stride, requiring constant attention to the skirt hem and straps to avoid awkward slips or trips. To keep my posture photogenic during shoots, I had to continuously adjust my balance to make my leg lines appear elongated. These micro-adjustments drained stamina, but that is the very essence and charm of cosplay.
From choosing the costume and test-fittings to the final convention preparations, every single step demanded careful thought. Even without heavy armor props this time, refining the garment details and matching accessories still took dedicated polishing. Conventions are a process of challenging yourself and finding healing in return. Getting together with so many passionate anime and gaming fans today—even just chatting casually and taking photos together—was deeply fulfilling. I look forward to the next convention, when I can meet everyone again in a brand-new look.
