The moment I put on these pointe shoes, tied the ribbons tight, and stood up straight, my center of gravity and force-generating points had to be kept under absolute control. Shooting these ballet art photos of Odette from Genshin Impact was quite a major exam for my physique. Although I usually practice some dance movements, shooting in actual ballet pointe shoes made that feeling of pain and joy intertwined feel far too profound. Every moment of standing on tiptoe required tremendous strength from the calves and insteps to support, and while keeping an elegant expression, my toes were actually working hard inside the shoes.
The details of this outfit are truly exquisite. The upper-body bustier adopts a blue-and-white design, with very clear golden textures on the chest, perfectly restoring the three-dimensional tailoring. What amazed me the most is the asymmetric glove design: one side is a pure white short sleevelet, while the other is an elbow-length long glove with a blue-to-black gradient, instantly giving an agile yet mysterious temperament once worn. As for the classic ballet tutu skirt on the lower body, layers upon layers of blue-and-white sheer gauze skirt hems spread out lightly when spinning or lifting legs, which, combined with the white pantyhose, elongated my entire body line.
During the shoot, the photographer kept helping me adjust the positions of my hands and feet. Ballet arm positions require the arm lines to be smooth and full of extension rather than rigid. Actions like lifting one leg high not only required maintaining body balance but also ensuring an effortless expression with a smile at the corner of the mouth and light in the eyes, which is actually very physically demanding. After doing several consecutive half-pointe movements, my calf muscles were tight and aching. However, seeing the soft yet powerful muscle lines in the final photos made me feel that all the hard work was worth it.
During the fitting session beforehand, I noticed that the ribbon design of this skirt was a huge plus. Several translucent light blue ribbons extended from the side of the waist all the way down beneath the skirt hem. When posing in front of the lens with upright and single-leg back-lift movements, these ribbons fluttered with the shift of gravity. To capture the ribbons in their most tense state, we used continuous shooting on site countless times, repeatedly searching for angles, and every time I stood back up, I had to find the landing point under my feet all over again. As for the shot sitting on the ground, the angle of the knees and insteps took a long time to adjust just to fold out that beautiful leg line. Paired with this ice-blue short wig and the delicate hair accessory on top of my head, under the soft lighting environment, there was truly a dreamy and lightweight sense of fragility. The lighting setup in the entire studio leaned toward cool tones, shining on the white stockings and skirt hem to reflect an extremely delicate luster, fully displaying the leg proportions. For a cosplay that balances two-dimensional styling with basic classical ballet skills, every frozen frame is beauty earned through sweat.
