This time, I am trying on this classic maid outfit for Sakuya Izayoi from Touhou Project. After receiving the clothes, I couldn't wait to put them on and take this set of photos in front of the mirror. The overall look features a long-sleeved dress made of dark blue patterned fabric, with a lot of finely crafted white lace pieced at the neckline, cuffs, and hem, providing an excellent sense of layering. The decorative details on the chest are also very rich; the dark green ribbon, metal badge, and bead string accessories add a touch of gorgeous texture to the originally plain dress. The white embroidered apron at the waist is the soul of this outfit; the floral pattern is very exquisite, and paired with the golden-yellow piping along the outer edge, it visually raises the waistline while beautifully fusing the uniform feel of a maid outfit with the gorgeousness of a Lolita outfit.
The lower half features her iconic fluffy A-line skirt hem. I specially wore a petticoat so that the expansion curve of the skirt looks very natural without looking bloated, instead presenting an exquisite little princess style. The widest ring of white lace trim at the very bottom of the skirt hem is layered, swaying naturally with the skirt when walking, looking very agile. On my feet, I paired them with a pair of black-base pointed-toe high heels; the ankle strap design combined with that ring of pearl chain adds more elegant temperament, extending the gorgeous feel smoothly from the upper body all the way to the feet.
The wig section is also key to this look. The silver-white short hair takes some patience to manage; although it looks a bit fluffily messy at first glance, slightly adjusting the direction of the hair strands beautifully presents the character's traits. This time, I specially retained the bangs across my forehead and the slightly wavy layers, which, paired with the black-and-white ruffled headband on my head, makes the overall silhouette of the head fit the original setting very well.
Because it's a cosplay fitting, the entire process from putting on the clothes, arranging the wig, to adjusting the shoelaces took some time, especially the straps of the petticoat and the ties of the apron, which both needed to be adjusted to comfortable and symmetrical positions. The moment I held the "magic wand" prop, I felt the character accuracy instantly get a boost. Although it was just a casual snapshot using a phone in front of the mirror, to find the right angle, I still repeatedly adjusted my standing posture and hand movements several times. When shooting, I blocked my face with my phone, mainly wanting to clearly display the style of the clothes, the fluffiness of the skirt, and the overall proportion.
Although photos taken standing straight look relatively simple in posture, they actually heavily test the garment's pattern and tailoring. The fabric feels good and has enough crispness when worn on the body instead of looking limp, which is a crucial bonus point for cosplay costumes. Color-wise, the dark blue and off-white pairing brings out a great temperament, and with the gold piping accents, it looks very textured even when shot under indoor lighting.
While trying it on, I thought that this type of uniform containing Lolita outfit elements is actually quite picky about body shapes, but after putting on the petticoat, the tailoring around the waist combined with the coverage of the apron instead visually makes the proportions look more slender. The distance between the shoes and the skirt hem is just right, without looking top-heavy. The moment I walked to the mirror after completing the overall look, I felt a strong sense of achievement in finishing a styling look. Although the weather was a bit hot, the long-sleeved design was quite comfortable to try on in an air-conditioned room. While restoring the setting of Sakuya Izayoi, this outfit also incorporates some aesthetic improvements suitable for daily display. This was a very fulfilling fitting experience, slowly adjusting accessories and details, and I really enjoyed the process.
