This black cat dress Makeup test sharing photo set is finally out. Although it's just a test and many details are still being tweaked, the overall atmosphere already makes me very satisfied. The character Gokou Ruri Cosplay has a very unique aura—she carries both the stubbornness of a chūnibyō girl and the Gothic style mystery uniquely belonging to a black cat. To recreate this vibe, I put a lot of effort into the makeup.

For the base makeup, I chose a cool-toned matte foundation, emphasizing a translucent and fair complexion. Since the makeup needs to stay clean for a long time in front of the camera, the setting powder was kept light to avoid caking. The eyes are the core of this makeup look; to match the purple hair tone, I specifically chose high-pigmentation, naturally blended bright red contact lenses. To highlight the anime feel, the eye makeup used a reddish-brown eyeshadow as a large base, deepened the elongation at the outer corner, applied lengthening eyelashes, and paired it with exaggerated aegyo-sal drawn with lower eyeshadow to make the eyes look more expressive in front of the lens. The tear mole under the eye was precisely dotted on the lower right using a liquid eyeliner pen—this is a very iconic feature of Gokou Ruri. For the lips, a plump magenta lipstick was applied to create a soft-focus matte feel, with edges slightly blended outward to make the face shape look more petite and refined.

The wig is the highlight of this styling. This dark purple straight wig with blunt bangs comes with subtle micro-sparkles, giving it a wonderful glossy texture under indoor lighting. I trimmed the bangs repeatedly until they sat just above the eyes, leaving side burns on both sides to frame the face, ensuring it contours the facial lines nicely once worn. The accessory combination of a red rose, pink ribbon, and black feathers on the side of the head is the finishing touch of the entire styling, featuring a striking color contrast. For the clothing, a black thin-strap ruffled dress paired with black velvet gloves, tied with a red bow at the wrist, echoes the red and black color scheme, unifying the overall tone in Gothic style magnificence and darkness.

During the shoot, I tried different hand gestures to increase the richness of the frames. For example, lightly touching the corner of the eye or posing hand gestures beside the cheek, combined with the glove material, made the photos look more storytelling. Actually, I was a bit nervous about this makeup test because Gokou Ruri carries significant weight in everyone's hearts, demanding extremely high fidelity for both makeup and costume. From the smoothness of the base makeup and the blending layers of the eye makeup to the hair flow texture of the wig, every single step was adjusted repeatedly. This attempt gave me a deeper understanding of the character and revealed areas needing further improvement. For instance, the wig's fluffiness could be slightly increased, and the red tone of the eye makeup might need a more translucent treatment under daily lighting. Different lighting and angles affect the final photo results, so today's photo set also serves as a baseline for myself, making it easier to refine details further in the future.
