[Caster Amiya Cosplay] One Year of Arknights: Wardrobe Explosion and Wallet Agony

Exactly one year since entering the cosplay realm, I completed the makeup styling and photoshoot for this Caster Amiya cosplay at the Hangzhou Arknights-only event—a convention overflowing with fellow fan passion. Looking back on this one-year milestone, it serves not only as a test of my "combat power" over the past year, but also a heartwarming yet painful history of wittily battling my wallet.

This costume is packed with detail—the black windbreaker featuring teal-blue color blocking is instantly recognizable, with its back tailoring and white stitching reflecting the character's professional class traits. The inner layer features a high-texture white shirt paired with an overlapping dark purple and light blue necktie; complemented by that eye-catching cyan gem in the center of the choker, rich visual depth emerges instantly. Most central, of course, is that pair of fluffy rabbit ears; wearing them took considerable effort to adjust their position so they appeared naturally upright while staying securely attached in front of the lens.

The skirt is a blue-and-white plaid pleated dress. I was personally extremely satisfied with the lower half pairing black tights with shiny patent platform leather shoes, comfortably elongating my entire body silhouette while rendering gorgeous texture under convention hall lighting. Sitting on the ground in this outfit easily evokes a serene, anthropomorphic aura whether shot from a high angle or eye level; standing up with one foot hovering in a playful pose presents the livelier side of her personality. The photographer's candid snapshots were spot-on: against a dim concrete ground backdrop, a single crisp hard light was thrown, creating strong contrast that rendered the coat's texture and facial contours strikingly three-dimensional. Looking at the viewfinder preview back then, I knew this set had captured that exact ambiance.

Coming back to this one-year milestone: only those who have tried it truly understand why people in the community say "Cosplay is a bottomless money pit." From wig trimming and styling, buying costumes, custom-making props, to colored contacts, shoes, and various minor accessories—every new character cosplay feels like restocking a whole wardrobe inventory. Beyond procurement costs, there's the constant stress of snagging convention tickets, scheduling photographer availability, and managing round-trip transit. For this Hangzhou Arknights-only event in particular, extensive advance preparations were made. Every month-end when reviewing my bills, I sincerely want to apologize to my wallet: in the next life, please stay far away from cosplay and just be a quiet, peaceful little wallet.

Yet, this is probably one of those hobbies where "your mouth says no, but your heart remains brutally honest." At the convention venue, seeing fellow fans meticulously preparing various characters, greeting one another, and exchanging photos made every sacrifice feel completely worthwhile. Crossing the dimensional wall to resonate with a character originally confined to a screen brings immense healing and fulfillment. Moreover, debuting every new character forces me to learn new makeup styling techniques, master fresh posing angles, and even research small DIY costume modifications—all invaluable steps in personal growth.

Though I'm still a newcomer who just completed my first year in cosplay, I poured a ton of heart into this Caster Amiya cosplay look. My condition on shoot day was very relaxed; finding a clean corner background at the convention, guided by the photographer's directions, we recorded this photoset across several distinct angles. Sitting on white fabric with hands neatly folded, or lounging sideways at ease, were all aimed at capturing the character's blend of quiet grace and inner strength.

After a full year, I am still consistently awed by stunning character designs, and I still go crazy over color discrepancies in wigs or shoes costing a few hundred yuan during material prep. Yet this painful-yet-joyful journey is probably why I'll keep holding onto this passion in the future. So, I lied—I'm not quitting! Not only am I doing cosplay now, but I'll keep going in the future. Those rabbit ears have already been carefully tucked away into a dust bag, and I look forward to bringing them along to meet you all again in another setting or convention!
