[Sakiko Toyokawa cosplay] Ave Mujica Vibes: A Clash of Casual Outfit and Chinese Afternoon Tea

The origin of this photo set was actually quite simple. After wrapping up a studio shoot, I was looking for a place to grab food. The atmosphere of the dessert shop and the casual outfit I was wearing happened to match that cool, aloof yet grounded everyday feel of Sakiko Toyokawa perfectly, so I pulled out my phone to record these few shots.

For makeup, I chose an upturned eye style that I rarely attempt. To match the character's signature gaze, I revised the eyeliner and eye shadow blending three or four times, trying to simulate that sharp, clear look while keeping my natural eye shape. Since this makeup style isn't in my usual comfort zone, I felt subtle anxiety both two days before the shoot and during the long wait for final photos, worrying about camera washouts or an unsatisfactory vibe. Fortunately, my post-production friend helped fix lighting-induced color loss, so the final eye contours and expressions managed to reflect a trace of the character's real-life aura in my heart.

Regarding outfit coordination, instead of copying the original full official outfit, I chose a black base with cutouts and lace details paired with light blue wavy hair, creating a strong contrast in the frame. The hair accessories and bow combination added delicacy, using an original custom interpretation to simplify the design so the character looks more relaxed and everyday-like. The neckline tailoring, lace cuffs, and plaid bottom visually resonate with the exquisite yet slightly chilly vibe conveyed by the Ave Mujica project.

For props, the plushie I held was a specially chosen item. The little plushie's color scheme highly harmonizes with the character's look. Holding it adds dynamic energy to the photos and serves as a natural anchor for poses and gaze, avoiding awkward stiff hands. Especially in the second photo, the moment of holding a spoon to eat sweet soup feels like a candid snapshot of genuinely sharing afternoon tea with friends, making movements much smoother and easing any forced posing feel.

As for atmosphere, the soft warm-toned light in the dessert shop and the wood-grain table formed a wonderful foreground. Blurred background greenery keeps focus on the subject, making the figure stand out. The bowl of Chinese afternoon tea dessert in front contains lotus seeds, yellow fruit chunks, and a red bean base, offering bright colors that create a warm-and-cold color contrast with the light blue wig, enriching the image's color layers. The white porcelain teapot and tabletop items all serve as lovely embellishments.

Regarding shooting angles, eye-level and slightly high-angle medium shots were used to capture the upper body, maximizing facial expression details while showcasing the food on the table. In terms of composition, placing both the person and the table delicacies in the same frame creates an immersive feeling, as if actually visiting a cafe in real life.

This cosplay shoot was a practice in stepping outside my comfort zone. I rarely fuss with high-contrast eye makeup and styling, but when meeting a character I want to handle seriously, I always want to give my all to approach her traits. Although staying up late adjusting makeup and refining wig styling over three days was exhausting, receiving the finished photos turned all anxiety into a marvelous sense of fulfillment. The joy of cosplay lies precisely in briefly stepping away from routine, experiencing another persona's state, and presenting a slice of her everyday life through my own interpretation. Casual cosplay makes every moment feel rewarding.

I also considered the original custom elements during the shoot. Although it strays from official canonical attire into casual outfit territory, conveying Sakiko Toyokawa's unique Ave Mujica aura through styling and detailed makeup became the most satisfying part of this project. One doesn't need to duplicate every 2D pattern perfectly; the charm of real-life cosplay often lies in finding that subtle balance between fictional essence and reality.
