[Witch Cosplay] The Witch's Game Under Chessboard and Candlelight

When shooting this "The Witch's Game" set from Xixi Mao, the atmospheric vibe in the studio was instantly maxed out. This is no ordinary daily dress—red-and-white color-blocked lace elements combined with that exaggerated, richly layered dark red ruffling oversized hat looked extraordinarily mysterious under dim ambient light. Today our styling theme incorporated Halloween elements, so for hair, I specifically chose a golden wool-curl wig, styled to a fluffy texture, then adorned red crosses and white bow stickers under my eyes. Paired with slightly flushed blush around the eyes, this makeup greatly enhances the character's fragile sense and fairytale elf feel, giving the eyes more story to tell.

The studio chosen for this shoot was "Maoluo Wanxiang Photography Studio," where the scene setup provided a deeply immersive Halloween feel. Photographer "Qiaokeli" captured light and shadow brilliantly; we utilized tabletop candlelight and warm-toned light sources inside pumpkins as key lights, creating a "warm-toned dark" visual effect. Several sets of poses revolved around international chess. On the chessboard, I played a contemplating witch, fingertips gently picking up that yellow chess piece—this focused gameplay setting actually fits a witch's mysterious temperament very well. Alongside sat an exquisite vintage silver hourglass and several warm yellow candles; the hourglass represented the magic of passing time, while candle flames enhanced the quiet atmosphere.

The entire shooting process was actually quite interesting; because the skirt hem and sleeves of the outfit featured voluminous lace ruffles, slightly adjusting the garment's drape before each pose was necessary to maintain a flattering silhouette. I feel that for Lolita style Witch cosplay, eye contact and gaze interaction are vital. Looking straight into the camera requires a cool, slightly tsundere gaze; looking to the side allows for a slightly more relaxed posture, creating an ethereal vibe.

In terms of prop arrangement, we specially adjusted the positions of the pumpkins and chessboard to give the frame depth from front to back. Foreground blurring of hands picking up chess pieces further highlighted facial clarity under focus, giving the overall shot a sophisticated look. During shooting, whether it was the blue reflective material setup on the floor or the texture of the stone wall behind, both greatly enhanced three-dimensionality, giving the illusion of being inside an ancient castle or magic cottage even within an indoor studio shoot.

This makeup attempt actually continued my past understanding of the "little witch" theme. It needed both a dark gloom fitting Halloween and the delicate cuteness brought by Lolita fashion. The sticker design was a part I particularly loved—it not only brightened facial details but also balanced out the heavy feeling of the big hat. In pose design, I tried my best to strike agile gestures carrying a "mysterious chess player's" strategic feel, which didn't look overly rigid while matching the design soul of "The Witch's Game."

I'm very fortunate to have completed this creation with the photographer. Although action details needed constant tweaking during shooting, seeing the final photos—every detail interwoven under light and shadow, including lace textures, subtle candlelight halos, and eye makeup accents—perfectly matched my expectations for this look. Photography is also a process of recording emotions; through symbolic items like chessboards and hourglasses, I believe everyone viewing this Halloween portrait set can feel that fantasy charm belonging to Halloween night and the unique romance that Lolita culture brings.
