[Skadi cosplay] Convention photos from Chengdu Worldline Animation and Comic Exhibition: A Summer Clash of Blue-and-White Palette and Red Whale Prop

May in Chengdu was already hot enough to make everyone want to wear short sleeves, and the Convention photos from the Chengdu Worldline Animation and Comic Exhibition are finally in my hands! This swimwear-styled look for Skadi cosplay was in preparation for a long time; to capture that relaxed yet cool coastal atmosphere, we scrutinized every detail from materials to props. For the wig, I selected long straight silver-white hair with volumized roots to ensure a natural airy flow while walking around the studio or exhibition hall. Managing such long locks took genuine effort—spending over half an hour just shaping defined layers with styling wax. For makeup, the crimson eyes and the soft red blending at the outer corners were crucial. To make the gaze align closely with the character design, I intensified the gradient transitions around the eyes and applied a paler foundation base to amplify the contrast against the red irises, resulting in an eye-catching, striking presence before the camera.

In terms of styling, the white crop top features crisscross strappy accents with a delicate bow adorning the chest, while the sleeves are airy, semi-sheer ruffled tulle—remarkably breathable for summer wear. Below, I paired it with dark blue denim shorts cinched with a white belt. My absolute favorite detail was the navy blue thigh straps, which not only added visual layering but also flatteringly contoured the leg lines. For footwear, I chose a pair of blue wedge sandals, creating a clean, refreshing blue-and-white color palette. To keep the garments neat and unwrinkled, I constantly readjusted the top and leg straps between shooting takes to prevent shifting from larger movements. The biggest contrast between Convention photos and studio shoots lies in the chaotic ambient lighting and the bustling crowds; keeping a straight face without laughing requires immense mental focus and dedication to the character.

The shoot took place in a spacious indoor hall featuring a striped overhead lighting structure and wonderfully reflective flooring. To harmonize with the overall cool palette, the photographer leaned toward a moody blue-gray grade in post-processing, adding subtle floating white light specks to weave a dreamlike atmosphere. Posing on a black folding ladder was a real test of core strength—I had to engage my core to balance steadily, guard against wardrobe exposure with the shorts and top, all while maintaining Skadi's trademark cool, detached expression. Posing with the chibi plushies was hilarious whenever a sudden breeze blew hair strands across my face, requiring multiple takes with the photographer to catch the perfect angle. Swapping to the oversized red whale prop later dialed up the visual contrast significantly; hugging it instantly softened the overall vibe into something delightfully playful. Being in a public venue naturally drew occasional curious glances from passersby, which brought slight nervousness, but locking into shooting mode allowed me to completely immerse myself in the character's persona.

During post-retouching, I communicated closely with the photographer regarding body contouring, aiming to preserve authentic muscle tone rather than over-liquifying the silhouette. The degree of background blur was equally important—sharply defining the subject while retaining spatial venue depth so viewers immediately recognize the bustling comic con floor. Beyond putting on a costume, doing cosplay is about understanding the character's emotions within that setting, transforming two-dimensional concepts into tangible three-dimensional expressions where 2D steps into reality. I am thrilled with the quality of these Convention photos and gained invaluable convention shooting experience; I can't wait to challenge even more elaborate props and scenes next time!
