I finally got the Convention photos from this IJOY convention back, so let's jump straight into chatting about what went on behind the scenes for this Sultan's Game cosplay look.
The biggest challenge for this outfit was the full-body makeup and styling. As everyone can see, between the Gold body painting on my skin and the localized gold leaf foil patches, doing touch-ups on-site at the anime convention was truly technical work. To accentuate muscle lines and an exotic aura for this Muscular man cosplay, the makeup artist spent several hours carefully outlining geometric motifs across my chest, collarbones, and arms. That openwork metallic chain encrusted with red and green gemstones looked magnificent, but it was actually very heavy and tended to rub off the base makeup when walking, so I had to keep my upper body upright as much as possible to minimize unnecessary movement. The silk sarong fabric on the lower body had great texture, but it also slipped easily; I had to secure it by tying knots while ensuring the draping folds still looked visually appealing.
The shooting location this time was an industrial-style exhibition hall with multiple intense light sources overhead. To take advantage of the ambient lighting to cast shadows across the physique, the photographer constantly adjusted my positioning. In the first photo, I tilted my head slightly up while touching my neck and jawline, attempting to convey the character's tension and mystique through body language; in the second photo, I raised my arm to shield my forehead from the overhead light, angling my body sideways to highlight muscle definition—this posture actually required clenching my core continuously. To maintain muscle vascularity and pump throughout the shoot, I also had to keep doing push-ups between takes to stay in shape.
Many friends saw the teaser and commented that the styling was quite daring this time. Indeed, shooting bare-chested required overcoming some psychological inhibitions, especially in public spaces. But within the atmosphere of Convention photos at an anime expo, once you enter the character's zone, you don't worry about all that anymore. This kind of wild, revealing look with Middle Eastern Exotic style cosplay sets very high physical demands: not only do you need to maintain muscle mass, but you also have to ensure the gold leaf patches reflect light naturally under harsh illumination. Although the entire process was exhausting, the light and shadow textures rendered before the lens, alongside the tension-filled shooting vibe on set, made every bit of preparation and effort feel completely worthwhile. This set of photos gave me a brand-new breakthrough in both physical expression and capturing character emotions.
