This magic-themed duo photoshoot has successfully wrapped up. Portraying Lynette, I focused on recreating detailed elements of the twin characters from Genshin Impact. The Magic show stage set, complete with red curtains and floating playing cards, made this duo photo turn out exceptionally well.
For hair and makeup, the purple colored contacts and light blonde wig were key focal points. The wig needed careful styling to create this layered texture, paying particular attention to the length and fit of the bangs. The red five-pointed star marking on my cheek was hand-painted using body paint; finding the right shade was crucial so that it wouldn't look too jarring against the red stage background. In contrast, the teardrop marking on Lyney's face was more minimalist. Costume texture was paramount: I wore a cyan-blue jacket paired with a white ruffled collar and brown belts, with the oversized bow on my chest supporting the entire presence of the look. The black-and-white color-blocked gloves in my hands fit the character closely. Lyney's hat was large, and the red-and-black palette made him look very upright and dashing, complemented by the purple capelet to effortlessly create that magician vibe.
During the shoot, to capture the authentic atmosphere of this Magic show, we prepared numerous props. The most important were the red roses and floating playing cards. The cards were suspended in mid-air with clear fine threads, requiring meticulous positional adjustments so they would appear naturally hovering in front of the lens. Because red curtains absorb light easily, making faces prone to looking dark, we relied primarily on reflector boards on-site for fill light, striving to give the skin tone a translucent, fair glow. Coordinating our duo poses also heavily tested our chemistry; I needed to look slightly upward at Lyney, perfectly bringing out the dramatic tension of a stage play.
Because restrained emotion was required, I toned down my expressions, relying primarily on my eyes to convey feeling. The shoot lasted around four hours; due to the stiff structure of the costume, maintaining poses for long stretches proved quite a challenge for the neck and spine. Yet it is precisely this challenge that gave me a deeper, more rewarding experience with cosplay. We experimented extensively with the placement of the red rose props, the layering of hand placements, and the post-production fine-tuning of the purple pupils' hue under the red backdrop. Overall, that slightly mysterious theatrical atmosphere was captured spot-on—the red velvet curtains, flying cards, and exquisite costumes came together to feel just like a formal magic stage performance. Huge thanks to the photographer's patient guidance and my partner's seamless teamwork, which allowed us to bring this story-rich duo character portrayal to life.
