This time I shot Marisa Kirisame from Touhou Project, the mage who wears a black dress with a white apron, a big hat, and holds a broom. Choosing this lakeside outdoor location, the afternoon light was quite soft, and the reflection on the water surface perfectly mirrored the shadows of the trees, making it natural enough without needing much fill light. A purple bowknot was specially tied onto the hat, echoing the star and moon embroidery on the dress. The ruffles of the apron have many layers, which puff out when sitting down, giving it quite a substantial feel. The broom prop was handmade with real straw by the prop designer, feeling very similar to the kind used for daily cleaning, just much lighter. During the shoot, I tried my best to relax my movements and avoid standing too stiffly. Although Marisa is an energetic character, I wanted to show her quiet side, so I sat on the ground with my hands on my knees, looking straight into the lens with a slightly restrained expression. The contrast between the white lace parts of the clothes and the black vest was great, showing the fabric's texture nicely under the sunlight. The shoes are black buckle straps paired with white lace-trimmed short socks, a combination that carries a strong youthful, girlish feel.

The focus this time was to highlight the daily life feel of the mage, without using too many flashy spell-casting actions, but instead setting the broom aside to let it become a quiet accompaniment. The grass by the lake felt a bit soft to step on, so I had to be careful not to get the skirt hem dirty, but it turned out fine after checking post-shoot, since the skirt hem itself has several layers of mesh tulle and doesn't gather dust easily. For post-processing color grading, I kept the images clear and translucent, slightly lowering the saturation to make the green more subdued, which made the character's blonde hair and white apron stand out more. We chose several shooting angles: close-ups of the legs, shoes, and socks could highlight details, while wide shots brought out the environment and the overall outfit. Actually, the difficult part of this outfit is the hat; the brim is quite large and easily tilts when the wind blows, so I had to be constantly adjust its angle mid-shoot, but luckily the wind wasn't strong that day.

I'm quite satisfied with the composition of the sitting posture in the third photo, where the character is slightly to the left of the center, and the broom lies horizontally below to form a horizontal line, keeping the water surface and the background woods clean without stealing attention from the subject. Many people think Marisa should always be flying around and being highly energetic, but this time I wanted to try a more well-behaved interpretation, just sitting quietly by the water, occasionally looking out into the distance. In addition, I brought some small props along, such as the hexagram badge on the broom, so that even without spell-casting actions, the prop itself could embody the character's traits. I personally prefer the style of this photoset; there's no need to deliberately force poses, staying in a natural state is just fine.

Speaking of makeup and hair, the wig used was pale gold long curly hair with a bit of a wave at the ends, leaving the bangs and sideburns out to frame the face when wearing the hat. The eye makeup wasn't done too heavily, primarily emphasizing the eyelashes and eyeliner to make the gaze look softer. The lip color selected was a nude pink that wouldn't steal the spotlight. The overall makeup style was clean and refreshing, which avoided looking unnaturally white when paired with natural light.

The shooting location was chosen by a park lake in the suburbs, where there weren't many people on a weekday afternoon, allowing us to take our time. If there is an opportunity in the future, I'd also like to try shooting Marisa in places like a forest or an old Western-style mansion, which should yield a completely different feeling. However, being by the water this time was already joyful enough—sunlight, a gentle breeze, green grass, combined with a favorite outfit, made the whole process incredibly relaxing.

Lastly, I want to say that cosplay isn't just about dressing up accurately; it's also a way to immerse oneself into that world. Using a quieter way to interpret Marisa this time, I hope everyone can see her other side beyond just being energetic.
