[Kiryuu Kikyou cosplay] Blue Archive: A Unique Coolness and Soft Cuteness Beneath a Rainy-Day Engawa

This Blue Archive Kiryuu Kikyou cosplay photoshoot was taken on a rainy day. People often wonder how anyone can shoot in the rain, but overcast skies and rainfall actually provide beautifully soft, diffused lighting without harsh direct glare—ideal for capturing a cool atmosphere and subtle emotions. For this shoot, we found a venue featuring wooden sliding doors and a traditional Japanese garden. Sitting along the Engawa, the greenery behind me deepened in color from the wash of rain, highlighting the rich textures of the blue-and-white outfit. Styling-wise, the long black hair, animal ears, signature floating blue halo, and long tail paired with the classic blue-and-white sailor uniform palette made for an iconic Anime girl presence. The star patterns across the translucent blue cape felt featherlight, blending seamlessly with the navy pleated skirt. I was especially pleased with the legwear: the White over-the-knee socks flattered the leg silhouette nicely, and with the tabi split-toe design, the seated pose naturally elongated the leg lines. Framed by the drape of the skirt, it struck just the right visual tension, which was a key consideration when selecting the final images. We incorporated blue yarn balls and long ribbons as props. Whether playing with the ribbons or looping the yarn around my fingers, these touches harmonized wonderfully with that feline playfulness. The second shot, glancing back while holding a ribbon between my lips, felt wonderfully cheeky, while the fourth shot of sitting cross-legged and playing with yarn captured a more relaxed, natural indolence. As the overcast light filtered inside, it softened across the wooden floors and tatami mats, casting gentle shadows and cultivating a tranquil ambiance. The blue, white, and black palette looked exceptionally crisp against the lush garden backdrop. In post-production, we prioritized preserving the soft natural lighting, slightly reducing the contrast to retain richer shadow detail while gently touching up highlights along the hair strands, blue tail, and ribbons to enhance translucency. Moving through seated, formal seiza, and cross-legged poses while weaving in subtle interactions with the ribbons and yarn brought out the character's quiet yet delightfully enigmatic cat-like nature. The constraints of a rainy location ultimately became the secret behind this set's unique, serene mood, making it a deeply satisfying photoshoot experience.
