[Hayase Yuuka cosplay] Blue Archive: A Fresh Attempt at a Chinese Qipao Look - Image 1

Reflecting on the shooting process for this Hayase Yuuka cosplay in a qipao styling, from the moment I settled on the concept, I kept thinking about how to organically fuse Millennium Science School motifs with traditional Chinese aesthetics. Ultimately, I selected this modified Qipao cosplay top and shorts set in a black-and-blue color scheme. The top features a sleeveless, form-fitting high-neck design in black with blue piping along the collar and armholes, paired with black shorts below. For the wig, I specifically picked a deep purplish blue, trimmed the bangs, and inserted hair pads beneath the sides to create natural fullness and shape a well-proportioned silhouette. The halo prop above my head was the main attraction this time: to make it appear naturally floating, its inner structure went through multiple rounds of adjustment using wire and acrylic hoops paired with light strips, requiring constant angle calibration during the shoot to avoid exposing the armature.

For the setting, we scouted an interior featuring Chinese wood carvings and screens. The massive circular moon-shaped folding screen behind me provided wonderful atmosphere, with scrolls and bamboo-woven baskets laid on the low side table to the right, and the magnolia-and-bird painting on the left enriching the classical charm. Complementing the outfit, I opted for a seated posture. Kneeling barefoot on the light beige square cushion served both to express a casual, leisurely at-home mood and to highlight the garment's tailoring through body curves. Draping the oversized blue robe with its white interior lining casually off my right side introduced layered depth to the frame, preventing the composition from feeling sparse while naturally concealing part of my arm for a relaxed look.

Lighting was the greatest challenge during this Indoor studio photography session. The strong side-backlighting created beautiful flares across the screen, but risked washing out my face. After much testing, we harnessed natural sunlight filtering through the Chinese-style window lattice slats, which cast an organic partition of light and shadow that sculpted three-dimensional volume into the subject. To infuse narrative depth into my gaze, I repeatedly dialed in the angle of looking back over my shoulder, striving for active chemistry with the lens rather than a static pose. A white convention pass badge was still hanging from the side of the outfit, as there hadn't been time to take it off, yet it added an authentic touch of real-world presence, so we left it in place.

The entire shoot proceeded very smoothly, primarily because the fabric texture and the environment harmonized seamlessly. The black sleeveless top sculpted the silhouette cleanly, while the blue trims prevented it from feeling somber. Stepping barefoot onto the dark wooden floor was quite chilly, but I powered through for the sake of the final images. To capture Yuuka's calm, composed demeanor with a hint of tsundere charm, I kept my facial expressions reserved, sustaining a subtle upturn at the corners of my lips. Because the clothing is tight-fitting, I continually straightened my posture between takes so the seated pose wouldn't appear bulky. The painted folding screen on the left acted as a fantastic natural bounce card, diffusing light off its white flower-and-bird panels onto my left cheek to soften jawline shadows. Deciding to go barefoot was intentional, lending a more relaxed, languid feeling to the overall scene. The photographer guided my eye direction through various trials, ultimately settling on this three-quarter back-turn composition because it maximized the garment's side profile lines and leg proportions. As for the halo prop, I had prepared multiple backup plans, including transparent fishing line suspension, but ultimately chose to anchor it into the wig and edit out the mounting post in post-production, preserving natural fluid motion during shooting. I hope this visual presentation showcases the character's possibilities across different aesthetics. This marks a new creative venture on my cosplay journey, and I look forward to refining costume details and character nuance even further to bring you more heartfelt Anime cosplay works.
