During the D1-D2 days of CICF Expo, the character I cosplayed was Vivian from Zenless Zone Zero. First of all, I want to express my special thanks to Monica Little Demon for the invitation, giving me the opportunity to meet everyone on stage with this look. I really met many enthusiastic Phaethon-samas at this convention, and everyone's support gave me great motivation.
In terms of costume design, Vivian's outfit has a very rich sense of layering. The upper body is a sleeveless vest made of black leather, and the body-hugging tailoring really tests the pattern design; after wearing it, you need to pay attention to your posture at all times. The pink-purple cross-body silk ribbon on the chest and the purple-black long cape behind create a great color echo, breaking the dullness of the all-black look. The most visually striking part is the pair of exaggerated white large bell sleeves on the arms. This material collision of tough leather and soft white gauze presents an extremely high contrast in front of the lens. To secure this pair of sleeves, we made quite a few detailed adjustments inside to ensure they wouldn't easily slip off when posing. The amplitude of raising hands cannot be too large, otherwise the big sleeves can easily hit the display rack next to them. The metal square buckle and dangling chains on the belt are also key elements to enhance the overall gothic style texture.
In terms of makeup and styling, the purple long curly hair needed to be pre-styled and set, especially the braided hair on both sides to ensure it remained fluffy after long periods of wearing and walking. The pointy Elf ears props used special glue when attaching, and the skin tone transition at the edges was handled quite naturally. Red contact lenses matched with reddish eye makeup reinforced the character's inherent mysterious vibe. However, the venue lighting was quite hot, so to maintain makeup durability, the frequency of touch-ups was much higher than usual. As for props, the purple-and-black umbrella and the white half-face mask were great assistants. Holding the mask to half-cover the face, or holding the umbrella while leaning against the display stand, were all meant to make the body lines look more stretched. Especially when wearing over-the-knee leather boots and shorts, with the help of the yellow lighting of the display stand, it was very easy to get great photos.
The environment at the exhibition site was actually quite cluttered and the lighting complex. We found a good angle next to the yellow display stand, utilizing the on-site neon strips as background, plus the reflection of the leather material, making the texture of the original photos turn out great. Over these two days, walking around the venue in this outfit, the combination of the cape and long boots gave a special rhythm to walking. The black over-the-knee boots combined with black stockings, showcasing long legs in black stockings, nicely modified the leg lines visually, and combined with the shorts, they looked neat and a bit sexy under the convention lighting.
Actually, whenever portraying a character with many accessories and special materials, a lot of energy is required at the exhibition site to maintain the integrity of the styling. For example, the leather jacket easily wrinkles when sitting down and standing up, requiring hands to smooth it out at any time; the straps of the over-the-knee boots also need attention to avoid loosening. But seeing the final photos and everyone's warm reactions on site made me feel that everything was completely worth it. Vivian has a very unique temperament, and being able to bring her into reality through cosplay and interact with everyone was my happiest thing these past two days. Thanks again to the friends who helped shoot on site and every Phaethon-sama who came to interact.
