Shooting this set of photos for Castorice cosplay in the "Half-Orange Dimension · Court of Dust and Shadows" scene was actually more challenging than I anticipated. To replicate the character's serene and slightly detached temperament, I spent a long time thinking about how to handle the makeup and expressions, trying my best to make my gaze look calmer and more vacant.
The costume details this time are extremely rich; the white-and-purple gradient fabric and the black mesh structure resembling butterfly wings on the skirt hemline instantly popped with a rich sense of layering after lighting. The three-dimensional petal decorations on the arms and the flower accessories on the chest required meticulous fixation; otherwise, they could easily shift when lifting that giant scythe. The scythe prop was truly the highlight of this set; it's very heavy, and holding it requires finding the right support point for the center of gravity to keep the posture stable. Especially for the one-handed or two-handed holding actions in Photo 3 and Photo 4, it really tests arm strength. Fortunately, the final texture presentation turned out great, and the metallic coating combined with the purple patterns feels very substantial.
The layout of the scene also perfectly matched the character's atmosphere. The dark purple stained glass windows, combined with the surrounding large clusters of purple floral arts and dark draperies, created a highly classical Gothic vibe. Even small skull props were placed within the frame; in the dim light and shadow environment, they formed a powerful visual contrast with the floral and butterfly elements on the costume, giving a sense of both decay and interweaving vitality.
During the shoot, to capture that sense of wind movement and flying hair strands, the wind equipment we used was quite powerful. A few strands of silvery-white long hair floating in the wind indeed added dynamic tension to the entire set. Complemented by some glowing butterfly special effects in post-processing, it perfectly built up a mysterious and somewhat illusory sense of magic. Earlier in the thread, I mentioned "Cold? Do you want to go walk under the sunlight together?", which was exactly meant to seek a gentle contrast within that solemn and deep scene. This is probably the emotion this collaboration wishes to convey—even within a court filled with thorns and gray tones, there is still an intention to approach the light.
From hair and makeup to props, and from clothing to scenery, behind every set of photos lies an immense amount of preparation and adjustment. This type of styling with highly iconic facial characteristics (like the elf ear look) and long hair is exceptionally time-consuming when organizing the wig and straightening out the skirt hemline on site. However, seeing the final interplay of light, shadow, and color, all the effort was thoroughly worth it. This shoot stands out beautifully as part of my personal journey in Cosplay photography, matching the professional level of a HoYo Wonderful House project.
