I've always really liked the character Kuriyama Mirai. Back when I watched Beyond the Boundary, I felt her everyday outfits were very distinctive. Taking advantage of the orientation season for new students when the campus environment is full of vitality, I decided to try the stairs scene over by the First Cafeteria, a spot I've been wanting to shoot for a long time.

The process from preparation to final output was actually quite meticulous. The wig was specially trimmed, and the texture of the red-rimmed glasses was intentionally selected to closely match the anime's style. This combination of a pink cardigan paired with a blue sailor-style collar tie and a mint green skirt is visually very refreshing, making it perfect for campus photography settings.

The lighting that afternoon was just right, filtering through from the side of the building and forming a beautiful transition of light and shadow on the steps. To capture poses that were both natural and recognizable during the shoot, we tried several different positions. For instance, in the few shots where I lean against the stair railing, the focus was on the relaxed feeling of the gaze and hand placement. Meanwhile, the final photo where I crouch down holding the red weapon was intended to reflect that side of the character beyond her daily life.

In reality, performing such dynamic and expansive movements on actual stair steps is not easy. It requires balancing the body, managing the folds of the clothing, and ensuring the completeness of the props within the frame, necessitating a tacit understanding in camera language with the photographer. We repeatedly adjusted the camera position several times before finally finding a perspective angle we were satisfied with.

I've always felt that a great official cosplay set doesn't necessarily require a grand scene, but rather finding the perfect intersection between the character and the environment. This set of photos turned out with just the right color saturation while preserving some of the sunshine's texture, which I think is great for showcasing this character's approachability in her everyday life.
