[Seed cosplay] Zenless Zone Zero: Notes on a Mint Blue Custom Design

When working on this custom design for baby Seed, my initial concept was actually very simple: I wanted to take her original foundation and infuse elements from the sweet dresses I personally adore, creating a softer, sweeter atmosphere. Rather than chasing one-hundred percent fidelity, I wanted to explore the character's possibilities under an entirely different style.

Let's start with the hair: I picked a base wig in a lovely mint blue. To sculpt that effortless, slightly mischievous mini top-knot at the crown, I repeatedly teased the roots with a pintail comb and hair wax, shaping it little by little. The curve of the front bangs was trimmed three separate times before achieving the ideal airy volume. Under the studio lighting, the fibers took on a distinct, luminous translucency. To anchor this voluminous wig, I concealed several bobby pins inside; during the shoot, I was constantly worried it might collapse, but looking at the final shots, the hold stayed impressively solid.

The makeup was the centerpiece of this custom concept. Because both the wig and contact lenses were in the blue color family, the eye look could easily look flat or appear puffy. I deliberately laid down an extensive wash of cool dusty-pink eyeshadow as a base, layering a touch of delicate light-blue shimmer across the inner half of the lids. To make the eyes pop, I wore high-pigment blue contact lenses paired with an elongated winged eyeliner, meticulously placed individual lower lashes, and dotted radiant highlighter across the aegyo sal. The core goal was showcasing these blue eyes while keeping the skin and makeup clean and translucent. Even though wearing the lenses for hours left my eyes somewhat dry, seeing that vivid blue gaze in-camera made every second worthwhile.

Wardrobe-wise, rather than the heavily utilitarian techwear of her default outfit, I selected a lace Sweet dress piecing together off-white and soft pastel blue. The layered ruffles along the collar and the sheer tulle cuffs sparked a delightful chemical reaction with the cool-toned hair, softening her overall presence considerably. A light blue ribbon across the bodice printed with lettering added subtle graphic detail. The accompanying silver floral metal barrette was intentionally clipped to the side, breaking up the symmetry of the hairstyle while serving as a gentle color bridge.

During shooting, I deliberately explored contrasting angles. Looking downward with a soft, subtle smile easily summoned a gentle, serene ambiance; meeting the lens directly with eyes slightly lifted let the brilliant blue irises and makeup nuances shine completely. I adored both moods, so I decided to include them all.

Getting the makeup and styling ready took over three hours, and combined with on-set adjustments and shooting, it was definitely a physical workout. Yet turning a vision from my mind into reality step by step and preserving it on film brings an irreplaceable sense of accomplishment. Seed has so many radiant qualities, and this custom styling is my personal aesthetic homage to her. I can't wait to keep exploring even more diverse styles down the road.
