[Moriya Suwako Cosplay] Touhou Project: Summer Atmosphere & Deity Daily Life by the Lotus Pond

Putting on this white dress, donning the iconic straw hat, and holding that huge lotus leaf in hand, this outdoor summer shoot officially kicked off. The theme for this shoot is Moriya Suwako from Touhou Project, a character I personally adore for her natural spirituality. For this location shoot, I prepared quite a few props in advance—beyond the lotus leaf and straw hat featuring the eyes pattern, the yellow bamboo ring in hand served as a key detail to faithfully recreate her design. Although wearing the full gear under the scorching sun felt quite sweltering, stepping onto the bluestone path by the lotus pond surrounded by vibrant greenery instantly made every effort feel completely worthwhile.

Regarding outfit details, this white-based dress incorporates lightweight fabric with brown trim detailing along the hem, while red thin cords accent the neckline and cuffs, blending divine dignity with summer airiness and playfulness. The white over-the-knee socks are the soul of the look, forming a crisp, clean color contrast against black leather shoes. With every step, the flowing dress skirt fluttered in the breeze, allowing me to quickly immerse myself in the character's aura.

The Cosplay location shoot was set between an untouched lotus pond and lush woods. The photographer skillfully utilized the dense natural foliage and dappled light spots. Instead of building artificial studio sets, we relied entirely on authentic stone paths, moss, stone bridges, and sprawling lotus leaves. Standing on stones by the water or holding the lotus leaf under large trees, these natural surroundings perfectly aligned with Suwako's lore as a land deity and nature goddess. Particularly in the shot where I squatted on the grass holding the lotus leaf overhead like a small umbrella, the photographer's timing captured a moment that felt subtly mysterious yet approachable.

For specific posing, alongside quiet standing postures, I tried lively, dynamic poses. Standing on a rock with one foot raised or jumping while spinning the bamboo ring gave the frame visual breathing room. A Cosplay location shoot requiring environmental interaction is often far more challenging than studio posing, as you constantly adjust angles to natural light while watching for slippery rocks. Yet it is precisely this raw, unpredictable outdoor setting that yields photos filled with vitality and mood.

In conveying this Anime girl character, I paid special attention to expressions and eye contact. Though a deity, Moriya Suwako isn't distant; she possesses a child-like innocence alongside her protective resolve. Thus, I maintained a natural, soft smile for the lens without forced sweetness or coolness, aiming to bring out her charming contrast and approachable charm. From close-up portraits to wide environmental landscapes, the entire set recorded an authentic, unreserved state.

Immersed by the lotus pond surrounded by overwhelming green and shimmering water reflections, the air smelled of moist grass. Even after washing off makeup, the shoot itself remained deeply memorable. It was more than completing outdoor photos—it felt like a refreshing summer wander into nature. In post-processing, we preserved the lush greens and natural light texture without heavy filtering, pursuing a clean, refreshing visual style. From outfit prep to on-site shooting, every step of this complete Touhou Project Moriya Suwako cosplay set reflects the team's heart, delivering a final result born of collective dedication.
