[Shiomi Hotaru cosplay] BanG Dream! Millsage Casual Wear Speedrun Group Shoot Log

The decision to organize this casual wear indoor group photo shoot for BanG Dream! Millsage actually started from a spontaneous chat in our group. Everyone mentioned that this project is relatively niche right now, and we wondered if we could assemble the full cast within a single day for an ultimate speedrun. To our surprise, less than a day after posting the recruitment notice, all five cosplayers were fully confirmed—the rush of forming a full squad so quickly was truly magical. For this shoot, we portrayed the casual outfits of Shiomi Hotaru cosplay, Houka Izumi cosplay, Hamasaki Mahoro cosplay, Kotohira Nagi, and Izawa Natsume.

To recreate the cozy ambiance of a band's daily rehearsal life, we selected a tatami-matted Japanese-style room as our venue. The lighting that afternoon was gorgeous, with warm sunlight streaming through the windows and pooling across the floor, naturally casting a tender, soft-focus warmth across the whole scene. In the background, we arranged wooden shelving, small potted plants, stacks of books, and guitars leaning into the corners to enrich the lived-in realism of the frame. Because these are casual everyday outfits, nailing the visual balance required even greater precision with subtle details—such as the tailored silhouette of plaid jackets, color ratios of layered under-tops, and the exact placement of personal accessories—all repeatedly cross-checked to look completely effortless on camera.

During shooting, we didn't just pose for static standing group portraits; we actively simulated playing our instruments. Holding the bass and guitars meant fine-tuning our fretboard finger placement, adjusting strap lengths, and staggering our standing depths. My teammates and I communicated continuously about dynamic posing—who should stand where, which direction glances should wander—ensuring the frame felt cohesive as a collective band without appearing staged or stiff. Our photographer, Yezi, offered countless insightful framing tips that helped capture numerous spontaneous, lively moments.

Beyond standard band performance compositions, we also took an overhead shot with all members lying back-to-back across the floor. With our heads close together and eyes shut soaking in the ambient sunlight, everyone felt genuinely relaxed, allowing the camera to document our most authentic expressions. The color palette leans fresh, crisp, and radiant; in post-production, we carefully preserved the organic contrast of natural light rather than drowning it in exaggerated color grading.

From early preparation to the wrap, our synergy was effortless. As these are lesser-known characters, gathering a full band together was already a wonderful stroke of serendipity. This set of casual photos is merely the first phase of our project—we are currently awaiting the production of the narrative-driven story cuts, with set decoration and further shooting actively progressing. The whole team is thrilled to see the complete narrative come together, hoping our shared passion for the work shines through every frame.
