This time I shot Hoshimi Miyabi's classic arcade-style look. Before the shoot started, I had already anticipated the difficulties of an outdoor location, but the final outcome completely exceeded expectations. This outfit has quite a few design details; the teal techwear outfit jacket is highly recognizable, and combined with the white shirt, bowtie, and black plaid skirt on the lower half, the overall look is exceptionally layered. The animal ears accessory and black wig this time also fit the character's inherent aloofness perfectly; once worn, my entire aura unconsciously settles down. During the shoot, we primarily considered three different scenes. In photo two, sitting on the steps in front of that yellow wire mesh, we happened to catch a warm-toned backlight. The light hitting my face was very soft, and the captured expression shows a relaxed yet guarded state, which I really like myself. Photo one was taken inside a rather narrow metal staircase. The long and narrow vertical space actually imposed a lot of shooting restrictions, but the photographer chose an excellent angle, using harsh overhead light to crisply slice the staircase shadows. Paired with the long katana prop in my hand, the upright sense of pressure was instantly maximized. Photo three was taken in an old alley we found nearby. The worn-out pipes on the walls, outdoor air conditioning units, combined with the reflection of the puddles on the ground right after the rain, unexpectedly matched the character's temperament lying somewhere between daily life and combat. Shooting a small-scale figure from a distance against a damp and dim environment instantly brought out the atmospheric photography vibe. Holding this katana prop in hand was actually heavier than imagined. When swinging it, the center of gravity leans a bit forward, requiring the wrist and core to control the entire movement; otherwise, it easily captures a stiff look. Therefore, when posing, I had to constantly pay attention to the exertion points and could not ignore the sense of power just to look cool. Compared to traditional anime studio shoots, this real-scene street-snapping style cosplay tests one's integration with the environment much more—needing to perform the character's traits while keeping the movements natural and non-intrusive. This set of prints basically relied on the natural light on-site combined with streetlamps, without any intentional fill light, which conversely preserved many real shadows. This is precisely the kind of texture I wanted, avoiding over-smoothing or distortion. We actually encountered some trouble midway through the shoot, such as traffic coming and going in the alley, and the low-lying ground in photo three easily soaking my shoes, but the final outcome of these animal ears cosplay photos was well worth it. Portraying a character who naturally carries such a powerful aura doesn't require too many exaggerated expressions; maintaining her calm and unhurried underlying nature, paired with the cold and hard background, beautifully conveys the character's core.
