The weather in Guangzhou on the day of the convention was fantastic, with clear, bright outdoor light—perfect for shooting Japanese-style outdoor scenes. We chose a corridor balcony next to the venue, using the modern feel of glass curtain walls and metallic railings to contrast with the character's cute, approachable vibe, yielding even better results than I had anticipated. Kazusa herself possesses a slightly lazy and playful aura, so I deliberately adjusted my poses and facial expressions toward a more lively, casual tone, hoping to express the agile yet slightly tsundere charm of a cat maid.
As for the costume, the moment I got this maid dress, I felt its texture was superb. The classic black-and-white color palette centers visually around a huge, vibrant red bow at the neckline, which is exceptionally eye-catching. The sleeves feature black puff sleeves with white stitching, complemented by a white ruffled apron that adds rich layers. Of course, the most iconic parts are the head accessories. The pink-and-white angel halo required an invisible bracket to secure, casting a soft aura under natural outdoor light with exquisitely crafted details. The black-and-pink cat ear headband closely matched the original character design, instantly filling the entire look with energy once put on.
The wig was another focal point of this cosplay. It features a black bob cut with straight bangs, fading into pink gradient highlights at the ends. This hairstyle demands very high standards for layered trimming; the front bangs cannot be too thick, or they will look stiff. I specifically asked a wig stylist I've worked with before to help shape it, giving the hair strands a natural, lightweight flow. Especially when a light outdoor breeze blew by, the gently swaying hair and captured gaze created a wonderfully vivid moment. For makeup, to align with the character's anime look, I chose red contact lenses, accentuated the outer eye smudge and lash curl, and paired it with a black choker around the neck, pushing the sweet-and-cool vibe to the max.
I also put some thought into the lower body styling. Pairing black thigh-high socks with brown platform loafers, this slightly uniform-inspired combination gave the maid dress a more casual, refreshing feel while beautifully flattering leg shapes. When sitting on the corridor steps, I could naturally extend my legs, using high-angle or eye-level shots to demonstrate the outfit's layered structure. The socks in this Black tights outfit caught subtle sunlight reflections with great texture and a slimming effect, making it an extraordinarily photogenic ensemble for Convention photos.
While taking these photos, the photographer kept encouraging me to try more dynamic movements rather than just standing still. This resulted in several relaxed sitting and standing poses in the set, such as gently raising one hand like a beckoning cat or sitting sideways on the steps. These hand gestures and crossed-leg poses visually elongated my body proportions without feeling forced. The atmosphere at Guangzhou BAonly was enthusiastic as always; I ran into many fellow cosplay friends and enthusiasts, chatting and photographing each other in the rest area, truly enjoying that passion-driven atmosphere. Even though wearing heels and a wig all day was a bit tough on my feet and scalp, the moment I saw the final shots, everything felt completely worth it.
This black-and-white cat maid look offers wonderful casual charm and camera presence, with a clean and crisp color scheme suitable for both indoor booths and outdoor walkways. The photographer's lighting rendered the skin texture with translucent clarity, and post-processing was kept subtle to preserve realistic light, shadow, and fabric textures.
