[Xishi cosplay] JK original design Dark-Field Convention Photos

These returned Convention photos from the Jiangmen Jieyuan Anime Convention present Xishi's JK original design look. Selecting a dark space at the edge of the convention, we used a single hard light from a diagonal side angle to illuminate the main subject, completely darkening the cluttered background environment so the frame focuses purely on the character.

For this look, I chose a white shirt and a gray vest as the base layer, paired with a navy blue bow tie featuring dark polka dots, as well as a dark blue bow headband on top. These details preserve the character's original gentle and cool vibe while incorporating the warmth of everyday uniforms as part of this Gray vest uniform setup. The lower half features a blue-grey pleated plaid miniskirt paired with matte black over-the-knee socks and black platform loafers. This combination visually elongates leg proportions nicely, and the black over-the-knee socks shape the legs exceptionally well.

Big thanks to photographer NightDiva for accurately capturing the best moments despite the heavy foot traffic at the convention. The full-body shot in Figure 2 is one I'm super satisfied with; the backpack pose paired with a natural standing posture completely displays the outfit combination of JK uniform, Long socks outfit, and shoes. The red velvet cupcake held in Figure 3 was a last-minute prop that added a vibrant accent in the dark environment. Figures 1 and 4 attempted a half-body close-up and a playful cheek-poking gesture, respectively, switching between aloofness and cuteness within the framework of a character original design.

For the wig, I selected straight black long hair with turned-in ends paired with straight bangs, which blended seamlessly with the blue headband. Compared to fully replicating the character's original ancient-style outfit, the fun of an original design lies in giving the character more modern daily-life warmth. However, mastering that temperament without losing the character's shadow required extensive communication with the photographer during shooting, adjusting subtle gazes and hand placements multiple times.

Although the convention venue was hot and crowded that day, finding such a quiet dark corner made the shooting process immersive. The material of the over-the-knee socks didn't show exaggerated reflections under convention flashbulbs, saving me a lot of effort in post-retouching. Shooting this JK original design left me feeling comfortable and at ease overall; interpreting a character through a uniform outfit is not only breathable and easy to move around in, but also feels much more natural in expressions and body language than traditional ancient-style costumes. I hope this photoset preserves the texture and agility unique to JK outfits beyond filters and lighting.
