Shooting this set of hydrangea and rainy day photos is actually an attempt to externalize my understanding of the character. The fleeting sense of serenity that the character Rea Sanka possesses reminds me of the continuous plum rain season in June, and the hydrangeas drooping in the rain. Therefore, when dreaming up this photoset, the photographer Yansi and I decided to utilize the natural light of rainy weather to capture a slightly moist and cool atmosphere.

Regarding the outfit, to match the character setting, I selected a white sailor-collar top with purple trim and a pleated skirt, paired with a blue bow tie. I specifically chose a stiffer texture for the bow tie so it wouldn't look soggy in the rain and mist, making the overall look sharper. For the hair, a matching white flower hair ornament was specially chosen as an accent. The straight long black wig's bangs were actually trimmed multiple times, eventually adjusted to a length that just covers the eyes but still leaves room to breathe; the gaze peeking through the gaps in the bangs looks more layered with a story. In terms of props, a transparent umbrella is a must-have. It is not only to restore the character; under overcast conditions, the transparent material can beautifully refract the sky's light onto the face, acting as a natural softbox to make the character's contours look softer and more three-dimensional.

The shooting day heavily tested the mutual understanding between the photographer and me. Because it was a rainy day, the blue-stone slabs on the ground were slippery, and there was a lot of mud around the hydrangea bushes. However, for that feeling of being surrounded by clusters of flowers, we still decided to arrange most of the camera angles at the edge of the bushes. The first few wide-shot compositions mainly utilized the corridor rack structure to form a framed composition, blurring the bushes as a foreground to create a visual experience of being in a secret realm. In terms of close-up shot control, I tried to restore the aesthetic beauty of wandering between the boundaries of life and death through the extension of my fingers, not wishing to express it too tragically, but hoping for a gentle, quiet fading away.
\ For the handling of makeup and skin texture, we also made some fine-tunings. Instead of using an overly bright base makeup, we layered a bit of greyish-green contouring over the original skin tone, paired with slightly deeper red-brown eyeshadow, making the gaze look deeper rather than simply sweet. I feel that restoring a character cannot just stay on the surface outfit; the transmission of temperament and micro-expressions is the soul of a cosplay photoshoot. When shooting the last picture, a gust of wind happened to blow past. I subconsciously turned my body with the wind, and the photographer captured the moment the hair strands drifted. That dynamic sense instantly made the entire frame come alive, breaking the original dullness of the rainy day background.

I am very satisfied with the post-production atmosphere. The overall contrast was lowered, preserving a bit of detail in the shadows, allowing the green leaves and blue-purple hydrangeas to still display color layers in the cool environment. This low-saturation cold-toned style perfectly matches my inner imagination of Sankarea: Undying Love. In fact, the more I shoot, the more I feel that cosplay is not just about putting on clothes and taking a few photos; it is a deeply immersive experience of the character. In this rainy garden, I briefly spent time belonging to her. There are certainly regrets about this hydrangea photoshoot, such as many frames being limited in shutter speed due to the impact of rain, failing to capture more dynamic moments. I hope next time under better lighting conditions, I can try some different expressive techniques. All in all, this rain-scenery shoot was a very special experience. Thank you very much to the photographer for their patience and creativity, leaving those fleeting inspirations in the negatives.
