This time, I chose to portray Momomiya Ichigo from Tokyo Mew Mew (Momomiya Ichigo cosplay), also widely known as Mew Ichigo. Because she is a classic cat-girl character with iconic pink elements, blooming cherry blossom trees were prioritized as the main outdoor setting.
Before the shoot, the costume underwent several rounds of fitting. The pink dress utilizes a glossy textured fabric, and the puffiness of the bubble skirt is supported primarily by inner stiff crinoline mesh, keeping a flattering inverted-triangle silhouette whether standing or half-crouching. The deep crimson velvet patchwork at the neckline is a highlight of the dress, which, paired with the gold-and-red choker, elevates the color saturation and overall texture while preventing the neck area from looking bare.
For the wig, this short curly pink wig was meticulously thinned and teased to create a messy yet well-structured airy volume. To better match the character's feline nature, I specially chose black-and-pink plush Pink animal ears, adjusting their angle during wear to look more spirited. The tail was built with bendable internal wire, allowing its direction to be adjusted according to each pose to prevent it from drooping unnaturally. The overall hair and accessories infused the look with vitality, which suited this ambient lighting beautifully.
During the shoot, I explored multiple camera angles to showcase the character's personality. The first shot was sitting on stone steps looking up at the blossoms—a grand composition that seamlessly integrates the subject with the surroundings, conveying a serene and pleasant mood. The second adopted a slightly dynamic standing posture with hands coordinating with props and maintaining core tension to support the dress structure, while the leg contours paired with reddish-brown boots showed a crisp, neat feel. The third utilized a close-up, focusing on eye contact to appropriately convey the signature curiosity and focused expression of a cat.
Building upon the soft ambient lighting on site, we carefully adjusted exposure to prevent the glossy pink surface from blowing out. The reddish-brown boots grounded the ensemble well, balancing the potential oversweetness of the pink dress; together with the red gloves, the entire look achieved high color harmony.
Additionally, the plush pink ring-shaped prop in hand was a key highlight, adorned with a small gold bell that jingled gently during shooting to heighten the atmosphere. In the final shots, whether close-ups or full-body, simply tightening the core helped the bubble skirt drape naturally in front of the lens instead of looking bulky.
The thick soles of the boots provided solid support on the rough outdoor ground, eliminating worries about gravel affecting standing stability. Walking between shots, the boots clicking against the wooden decking also added to the immersion.
In actual shooting, the center of gravity was maintained on the torso because the puffy skirt and props carried substantial volume; leaning too far forward or backward could easily disrupt balance. Thus, in the second standing photo, a slight diagonal body twist was chosen, utilizing the skirt's tension to balance the visual center and harmonize overall proportions.
Overall, shooting this during peak cherry blossom season perfectly matched the character's spring vitality and charm. During the shoot, the photographer also framed various perspectives—for instance, natural side-backlighting highlighted the wig's soft edges, making the entire aura feel remarkably gentle. When costume and prop coordination thoughtfully considers environmental colors, the Sakura Photograph results can truly exceed expectations.
