The weather for this Firefly ACG Expo certainly didn't let me down—it rained once again. While outdoor shots were rained out, the lighting at the exhibition booth turned out surprisingly well. A vibrant yellow backdrop and a basketball hoop served as the primary environmental elements for this shoot. Here is how I brought this Wuthering Waves Yangyang Xuanling cosplay to life on site.

Starting with styling: the outfit features a complex construction, pairing a black fitted corset with translucent sheer sleeves and intricate blue embroidery that read gorgeously under convention lights. The wig was the trickiest element—jet-black with blue and white streaks that required careful sculpting to prevent drooping. Pairing this with blue contact lenses gave the eyes a crisp, detached intensity.

Shooting relied on close synergy with the photographer. The first frame was a standard full-body stance; to accentuate leg length, I angled my posture so the yellow circular motif in the background framed the silhouette cleanly. Holding a yellow bottled drink served as a great prop to echo the background tones while keeping hands relaxed. The second shot featured a folded black fan looking directly into the lens, prioritizing makeup fidelity and eye contact. The third captured a dynamic thrusting pose with the fan; to project commanding tension, I pushed the fan firmly toward the lens while stabilizing the core and keeping a piercing gaze.

Despite the rain, the expo floor was packed. Navigating the crowds in this long skirt was a workout since the hem easily brushed against passersby, and holding the fan prop for extended periods tired my arms. But reviewing the finished shots made all that effort worthwhile. The makeup featured a porcelain-like matte finish with saturated blue shading around the eyes to emphasize that aloof, cool elegance.

The booth's bright yellow backlight was intense, so post-processing dialed back background saturation to keep the focus cleanly on the black, blue, and white tones. Black-and-blue tall boots seamlessly elongated the leg lines. Preparing this look was meticulous: the sheer chiffon layer snagged easily and required multiple backup pieces, and each blue feather on the skirt had to be groomed with tweezers. Controlling micro-expressions under tricky mixed top-lighting proved vital, leaning into three-quarter angles to give the face sculpted depth. Despite slippery boots and freezing drafty halls between shooting sets, the positive responses to this 2D portrayal made every moment rewarding.
