Attending the Firefly ACG Expo in my Kurati cosplay from Silver Palace allowed me to meet up with fellow enthusiasts I had long looked forward to seeing, completing a deep interpretation of this character.
As for Kurati, her unique military uniform and bunny ear look in Silver Palace has always enjoyed great popularity. Choosing to do this cosplay was mainly because I've always loved the design in Silver Palace that blends military seriousness with the lively charm of animal ears. Although her specific backstory isn't detailed in official lore, judging from the character design alone, the designer cleverly combined rigid epaulets and metallic decorations with bunny elements.
Let me share more about the costume itself. To recreate this predominantly white tactical outfit, a lot of thought went into material selection. The fabric surface has a subtle sheen similar to patent leather, which not only gives a better reflective effect under stage lights but is also stiff enough to support the tailored cut. The cut-out design on the chest, combined with the blue neckerchief, visually breaks up the monotony of pure white, giving it a strong structural feel. The golden epaulets and tassels on the shoulders, along with the blue bow decorations on the pant legs, are small details that require very fine craftsmanship.
In terms of actual wearing experience, ensuring that this outfit remains comfortable during long hours at the venue really tested the combination of the corset and inner lining. The biggest highlight is, of course, the giant bunny ears on my head; not only are they tall enough, but the internal support skeleton is also logically designed, maintaining the shape without wobbling or collapsing too much while walking. Additionally, the matching weapon with a blue-black hilt, though a prop, has a decent weight and feel, making it great for striking imposing poses.
For makeup, to fit her blonde hair and green eyes setting, light golden hair extensions were used for styling, and reddish-brown tones were emphasized in the eye makeup. Combined with light green contacts, the overall gaze looks both determined like a soldier and lively like a rabbit. Through every step of the styling process, every detail was crafted to get closer to the essence of this character.
The atmosphere at Firefly ACG Expo was fantastic. The venue decor was especially suited for this outfit; the surrounding blue floral arrangements and displays provided a great cool-toned background that made the white uniform pop even more. Posing on site and interacting with photographers, I tried to capture her spirit. From saluting and holding a sword to playful poses with hands placed near ears, I hoped every posture would closely reflect her confident and slightly tsundere personality base.
Kurati's look has always been memorable in the 2D community because works combining armor, tassels, bunny ears, and other diverse elements always draw attention whenever they appear. While doing this outfit, I also pondered how to make her more recognizable—not just by gathering all the gear, but by ensuring every movement, including eye contact and posture, blended into the atmosphere of Silver Palace.
Finally, huge thanks to all the photographers on site for their patient snaps; the photos turned out great. Love for cosplay is sometimes hidden in these repeated efforts to understand and interpret different characters. Being able to accurately recreate the essence of a character is the ultimate goal pursued by every cosplayer.
