On May 1st, I checked in at the IJOY Anime & Game Festival held at the China National Convention Center. A lot of effort went into preparing and executing this Delta Force Vlinder Cosplay look. The moment I saw this character concept, I was drawn to the sleek yet slightly futuristic tactical style, and the black-and-green color scheme really produced great convention photos at the venue.
For the top, I chose an army green short-sleeved tactical shirt paired with a black tactical chest rig vest. The chest rig features detachable medical pouch props with bright yellow and red labels that make the overall color palette pop; paired with highly realistic headphones and a throat mic, it recreates the immediate vibe of emergency rescue. The bottom half consists of loose yet cuffed black tactical cargo pants paired with thick-soled black techwear boots, with white socks at the ankles serving as a transition color to make leg proportions look longer. To balance the overall heaviness, a cinched waist design was intentionally introduced to reveal waistline contours, adding visual breathing room.
As for props, holding this rifle model felt very solid in hand; paired with a suppressor design at the front, it creates a visual contrast combining offense and defense alongside the chest medical pouches. The goggles on the brim of the hat served not only as decoration, but actually helped block glare at the venue, delivering maximum practical utility. White wristbands on the left wrist, fingerless tactical gloves, and a green butterfly charm attached to the armor decorations injected a touch of soft vitality into this hardcore Tactical style cosplay.
The lighting at the China National Convention Center on the day of the exhibition was great, especially when outdoor sunlight hit the tactical fabric, making the texture pop. Walking around the venue in this full gear tested physical endurance, but I thoroughly enjoyed the immersion of fully merging into the character. The breathability and freedom of movement of the gear were tested in advance, so whether doing small gestures like a salute or standing still with a firearm, nothing felt stiff.
Especially in this full-body shot, the wide-angle lens established great depth between the character and the background. Although the venue was crowded, the photographer captured precise moments. The special charm of the May 1st event lay in the vibrant atmosphere created by the crowds; interactions among players and the rhythm of live tournaments added special memorable significance to this suit-up. Recreating authentic character settings offers a unique experience every time, and tactical style always sparks a wonderful chemical reaction at comic conventions.
The makeup was subtly adjusted for this somewhat tough style, emphasizing 3D facial contours so that subtle makeup accents wouldn't feel out of place against tactical wear. The slightly wavy hair cascading down retained the wild feel from the original design while maintaining balance with the sleek overall styling. A round white badge with black text, a blue "RESCUE" logo, and red, yellow, and blue magazine pouch props were added near the chest buckle—key points that enhanced visual richness. The lines formed by shoulder straps and weapon slings naturally guided visual focus down the arms to the firearm posture, boosting narrative depth. The salute gesture in the photo served as a tribute, constructing a complete battlefield character identity through gear alone without needing extra dialogue or expressions.
Lighting during the shoot was equally crucial; natural light projected sharp contours onto the character, which paired with the metallic background of the venue to bring this rescue action style vividly to life. Adjusting the backpack and straps took half an hour to achieve a balanced look that allowed flexible movement without appearing bulky in photos. Wearing this full gear for nearly six hours while posing in front of the camera heavily tested expression management and core strength—especially in full-body standing poses, where stabilizing the lower body was key to keeping leg lines natural and straight. Details truly determine the visual quality of every shot.
This event coincided with the May Day holiday, and security staff as well as fellow cosplayers at the venue showed great appreciation for this hardcore look. Whether it was the tactical knee pads or base layer styling, both movement flexibility and physical presentation in photos were carefully accounted for. Focusing on crafting every look well and faithfully restoring characters before the camera is truly the original intent of every cosplayer.
