Today's convention weather was quite hot, but for this Asuna styling, I still donned the white plush shawl. This styling is mainly a 2D-stylized modification based on a traditional Qipao.
Let's first talk about the material of this outfit. The glossiness of the blue satin under natural light is exceptionally wonderful. The chest area features a teardrop-shaped cutout, paired with golden Chinese frog buttons and white embroidery, giving the overall look a fusion feel of traditional and modern styles. However, because it's sleeveless with large areas of exposed skin on both sides, matching it with this white plush shawl is extremely necessary—it not only enhances the overall textural layering but also blocks the breeze slightly inside exhibition halls with strong air conditioning.
The wig used this time is orange-gold, trimmed with blunt bangs and sideburns framing the face on both sides. As for the hair accessories, aside from the blue bow on the side, the floating blue halo atop the head truly required genuine effort to secure. The halo is made of acrylic material which is relatively lightweight, but it easily falls off while walking. I used several hairpins threaded through the bottom layer of the wig net, combined with a bit of transparent fishing line to anchor it securely to the crown, ensuring it wouldn't shift during walking and photo sessions. The contact lenses were chosen in a bright blue style, echoing the color of the outfit.
Regarding accessories, the semi-transparent round handheld fan is a major bonus point. The white florals on the fan face echo the embroidery on the costume, while the green tassels at the bottom infuse the frame with a touch of vibrant, leaping color. For the lower garment, I paired it with white lace shorts and White stockings, wearing a pair of black pointed-toe high heels on my feet. Why choose black shoes? Because the blue-and-white color combination is relatively fresh, black can act as a visual anchor point to ground the overall styling's center of gravity, while also elongating leg lines. During photography, the photographer also suggested I perform more poses showcasing leg lines, such as standing sideways or extending one leg slightly forward; paired with the high-slit Qipao, the visual effect turns out even more stellar.
While wandering around the convention floor, the turn-around rate for this styling was quite high. Walking requires paying special attention to the skirt hem because that long blue ribbon is easily stepped on. I generally use one hand to slightly lift the fan while letting the other hand swing naturally to maintain balance. When tired, I directly found a white plush blanket to sit on the ground and rest, which happened to blend seamlessly with the shawl's color, prompting the photographer to seize the moment and snap a few seated convention photos.
In truth, every time I portray characters combining technological elements with traditional attire, a compromise must be made between costume authenticity and operational mobility. This time's makeup focused primarily on the eye area, where red eyeshadow elongated the eye shape, paired with blue contact lenses and orange-pink lip tint to make the overall appearance look far more vibrant and energetic. Many friends mentioned this outfit resembles a Golden Retriever Qipao, which I also feel is remarkably fitting. Although convention wrap-up brings exhaustion, witnessing the light and shadow alongside the garment's texture in the finished photos makes everything deeply heartwarming and happy.
