For this photoshoot, I selected Fu Xuan's iconic outfit, combining it with the auspicious omen of 'Supreme Good Fortune, May All Endeavors Prosper' to specifically build a festive traditional Chinese set as a keepsake. The visual center of the entire scene rests on the vibrant collision of red and yellow: high-hanging warm orange lanterns and branches bursting with bright yellow blossoms in the background create a rich New Year atmosphere, offering a beautiful contrast against her original cool, ethereal purple attire.
Regarding costume selection, this ensemble features a white strapless bustier paired with a deep blue-violet waist corset, accented by scattered gold details that reward close inspection. To fit the New Year theme, I chose white tights patterned with subtle cloud motifs for this white thigh-highs outfit, which visually elongates the silhouette and adds graceful lines when posing on the daybed. The tassels and hairpins in the headpiece sway dynamically during movement, so I carefully controlled my posture to ensure every detail was captured crisply by the camera.
Throughout the shoot, we incorporated numerous symbolic props, including large red scrolls inscribed with 'May All Things Go As You Wish' and 'Wishing You Prosperity,' red envelope packets, and a handcrafted miniature lion dance doll. Holding the lion dance doll required delicate pressure—it needed to look natural without squishing the doll out of shape. Switching to the round silk fan and delicate mini golden bowl called for adjusting my seated posture to showcase a soft, elegant body line. In shots lifting the red lantern, because it was lightweight, I intentionally adjusted the cord's angle to make the lantern hang in a full, round arc within the frame.
For makeup, the focus was placed on eye detailing: gradient amber contact lenses brightened the gaze, while glitter accents below the eyes added a translucent glow under warm lighting. Lashes were applied cluster by cluster for crisp definition, giving the eyes a deeper, more profound look. A matte bean-paste red lipstick was chosen, appearing natural on camera without overpowering the costume details.
From prop arrangement to subtle pose tweaks, the photographer offered brilliant guidance throughout the shoot. Warm indoor lighting added exceptional texture to skin tones and white tights, leaving the overall frame clean yet vibrant. If you enjoy anime-style traditional aesthetic styling, I highly recommend using warm red and yellow palettes for your backdrops to instantly maximize the festive mood. From initial concept to final execution, creating this set was filled with joy.
