[Zhang He Cosplay] Gentle Breeze and Floral Accents Amidst Garden Water Reflections

Wearing this outfit this time happened to catch the garden just clearing up after a summer rain. The air carried a moist scent of vegetation, making the drape and flow of the thin chiffon and tulle fabric just right. To reproduce Zhang He's cool yet sharp temperament, a lot of homework was done early on regarding makeup and costume details.

For the wig, a light gold base was chosen with that highly representative touch of pink highlights applied locally, paired with red feather-like hair ornaments. The wig styling adopted a fluffy and layered look, which both retained the character's main traits and was convenient for wearing and walking outdoors. For makeup, the focus was placed heavily on enhancing the contours of the eyes, using dark eyeshadow to blend a smoky effect and pairing it with slender eyeliner to add sharpness, while the forehead floral ornament added a touch of softness. The overall base makeup was handled very cleanly and translucently, ensuring it wouldn't look heavy under natural light.

The costume is a chest-high dress interweaving light pink and off-white, with a meticulously embroidered coat layered on the outside; the embroidery craft on the collar and front placket is very exquisite. What attracted me the most was that ultra-long vermilion light gauze scarf, which was the core dynamic prop in this shoot. During the actual shooting, to capture the scarf fluttering in the wind and presenting an irregular sense of flow, we went back and forth carrying reflectors and fans, trying repeatedly dozens of times. The large faux flowers in the flower basket paired together brought a strong sense of substance visually, keeping the overall styling from looking thin.

The shooting location was chosen in a park with a stone bridge and a deep green pond. The dark water surface beautifully set off the light tones of the clothes and formed a harmonious contrast with the surrounding natural greenery. The hardest part of the shoot was finding a balance between dynamic snapshots and static freezing, because the wind direction and force were quite random, and standing on the rough stone railings required maintaining a steady posture. I had to not only pay attention to the flow of every single hair strand and coat corner but also constantly control my expressions so my gaze wouldn't lose its focus. The cooperation with the photographer was seamless, completing the shooting of this set of works during the softest time of light.

In fact, when shooting this type of traditional style cosplay character with a touch of fantasy, rather than deliberately forcing specific poses, it is better to understand what state the character should be in within a specific context. Placing oneself in a scene with a gentle breeze blowing by the water, holding a flower basket, and looking down at the water surface or gazing into the distance can instead manifest that quality of being both gentle and distant. This solo work primarily emphasizes the expressiveness of the clothing materials and the restrained nature of the person's temperament. Having walked through many detours, I have improved quite a lot in makeup/styling details and lighting control. I cherish every opportunity to successfully dimensionalize a favorite setting through Chinese-style photography, hoping the presented images possess enough texture and a sense of storytelling.
