This Jeanne d'Arc Alter cheongsam concept from Fate/Grand Order was designed from initial tailoring to the final shoot around a stark black-and-red palette and the character's formidable presence. The centerpiece is a sleeveless black floor-length dress featuring a soaring thigh-high slit outlined with crimson piping, while the neckline incorporates delicate lace trim and crisscrossing strap accents to establish a dark, razor-sharp silhouette. To match her commanding aura, the headpiece was custom-crafted with a dark metallic finish and red gemstone accents; paired with a sleek, waist-length silver-white wig, it amplified dramatic graphic tension.
We staged the session in a pure gray-white cyclorama studio. This minimalist backdrop eliminates visual noise, locking visual focus squarely on physical dynamism and wardrobe nuances. For makeup, the eyeliner was swept sharply outward and upward, complemented by crimson contact lenses and deep vampy lipstick. I held a cold, laser-focused expression to embody Jeanne d'Arc Alter's unyielding demeanor. For props, I wielded her polearm weapon; though slender in silhouette, it carried tangible weight when balanced dynamically through continuous takes.
Pose choreography served as the vital heartbeat of this shoot. To channel explosive combat momentum, I executed an aerial leaping posture. This movement demands intense core stability and balance while sweeping the polearm one-handed, requiring numerous takes to refine the line. Because of the high slit, preserving fluid leg lines mid-motion without compromising posture stability was an exacting task. A wind machine added lifelike billow to the hair strands and skirt train, though shifting drafts naturally raised the challenge, requiring the photographer to shoot rapid bursts to freeze the apex frame.
For the lower half, sheer black lace-trimmed thigh-high Stockings paired with glossy patent leather black stilettos enriched the frame with textural sophistication. From a lighting perspective, the clean backdrop colliding with the solid black garment forged intense value separation. Lateral key lights sculpted bodily contours while accentuating the sheerness of the Stockings and the specular gleam of the heels. Post-production deepened chromatic contrast between the reds and blacks to heighten the icy, menacing mood.
Collaborating with photographer Li Zhishan (Oath) was seamless from start to finish. We deliberated extensively over every micro-detail—from lance elevation and gaze trajectory to the flutter arc of the silk train. To ensure shadow details never crushed, lighting positions were rechecked with every posture shift. Bringing this official shoot together bridged pattern design, props, hair, makeup, and deliberate color grading. I hope this fusion of traditional cheongsam lines and dark fantasy character canon conveys Jeanne d'Arc Alter's perilous, intoxicating allure.
